Welcome to Anarchism :)

I’m grateful the canary exists and covers a lot of underreported stuff that needs a “canary” to ring the alarm bell.

I do think they could do with sensationalising and exaggerating a little less in their titles though.

Ableist language and eugenics great.

Fuck Joe Rogan but you’re just using Nazi logic.

Such a number would represent almost 8 percent of Gaza’s pre-war population of 2.3 million.

And there are still a lot of people trying to weasel out of using the genocide label. Including higher ups at wikipedia! Makes me very angry.

While it may look anarchist on the surface. Wikipedia is very much heirarchical and the power lies in few admins.

As an anarchist myself, and someone who has A LOT of edits on wikipedia, I wouldn’t call wikipedia anarchist. Crowdsourced, sure. Anarchist, no. The editor culture is no where near there.

Unfortunately he does have significant power within the wikimedia foundation (parent of wikipedia). He’s got a permanent seat on the board.

Thankfully wikipedia editors tend to act quite independently of wikimedia. But this sort of weighing opinion acting like they have sway on a controversial topic by Jimmy Wales (especially in the midst of wikipedia getting threats from the federal government), worries me a little that wikipedia may have its editorial independence under threat. (A talk page comment is still relatively minor, thankfully.)

A bit of an exaggeration the largest (non nascar or gymnastics) stadium on earth is > 110k capacity. It is US college football stadium but still.

In July, EPFL, ETH Zurich, and CSCS announced their joint initiative to build a large language model (LLM). Now, this model is available and serves as a building block for developers and organisations for future applications such as chatbots, translation systems, or educational tools.

The model is named Apertus – Latin for “open” – highlighting its distinctive feature: the entire development process, including its architecture, model weights, and training data and recipes, is openly accessible and fully documented.

AI researchers, professionals, and experienced enthusiasts can either access the model through the strategic partner Swisscom or download it from Hugging Face – a platform for AI models and applications – and deploy it for their own projects. Apertus is freely available in two sizes – featuring 8 billion and 70 billion parameters, the smaller model being more appropriate for individual usage. Both models are released under a permissive open-source license, allowing use in education and research as well as broad societal and commercial applications.

Say I have a link to an article or a title of an article. I wanna see if it’s already been posted somewhere.

The piefed or lemmy search bars are a little hit or miss. Is there anything better?
