omg the top comment just got deleted with over 500 upvotes

I think it was when it was edited to include specific links to Lemmy instances, instead of the join-lemmy.org website

I still see the comment on Spaduf's profile, but it shows as deleted in the post

I think maybe the link to lemmy.world is what triggered their filter? because that was edited in

On another note, don’t you think it’s a little weird that someone from world is saying to not follow small instances?

Where is that comment? I didn't see it. Maybe they're thinking back when it was really hard to get new communities federated, but it's not so bad these days, and even the medium sizes instances already have tons of communities already federated.

anyways I think we should've give people too much trouble as long as they're joining the Fediverse lol, they can move instances as they get a feel for it

also what's the best alternative for Mastodon? a lot of people there already tried Mastodon and didn't like it due to UX/UI issues

I would be good to list Mastodon as well as an alternative, and also listing Mbin might be good too? but then maybe you're putting too many choices lol

[–] Die4Ever@programming.dev 3 points 1 year ago (6 children)

yea it should just be a matter of searching your username, but you need to be logged in to search remote instances (they don't want anonymous requests spamming the network)

what's your Pixelfed username? I can pull it up if you want

[–] Die4Ever@programming.dev 5 points 1 year ago (8 children)

the bridge is pretty nice, I would recommend everyone on compatible platforms to use it (Bluesky, and probably any AP microblogging platform, but I've only tried it with Mastodon)

Does Lemmy allow hyphens in community names? I know it allows underscores

[–] Die4Ever@programming.dev 3 points 1 year ago

both sides need approval from the instance owner

[–] Die4Ever@programming.dev 7 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

correct, that's basically what https://lemmy-federate.com/ does, it just subscribes for each instance

Communities in Lemmy/Mbin are not federated by default. So when you create a new community, it will only be available to your instance. At least 1 person from all other instances must follow it in order to make it available. This tool does that. It follows your community from all remote instances until at least 1 other person follows it.

[–] Die4Ever@programming.dev 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I think that requires the instance owner to approve, and the approval process probably won't work with NodeBB?

[–] Die4Ever@programming.dev 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

the search should work, but give it time

I know it says no results found when the local search finishes even though it's still doing the remote search

also some apps may not yet support hyphens in community names, but at least it works for me in the web browser

if the direct link to the announcement wasn't loading for you, then their server was probably having issues (it was earlier too)

[–] Die4Ever@programming.dev 8 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

their server is down right now, but it did federate with lemmy.ml before going down https://lemmy.ml/c/activitypub@community.nodebb.org

https://programming.dev/c/nodebb-development@community.nodebb.org

also you can read their announcement from their Mastodon profile @nodebb@fosstodon.org

edit: it's back up, to see the announcement post in Lemmy format, put this in your Lemmy's search: https://community.nodebb.org/post/102756

it's from !nodebb-development@community.nodebb.org

[–] Die4Ever@programming.dev 23 points 1 year ago (1 children)

some forums that use NodeBB, will be interesting to see if they enable federation

SmashManiac originally ran the site but recently converted it into an open source project. Here's the announcement

You can view the new open source version of the site here

It's still early in the transition but I've converted it into a Jekyll build based on yaml data. Unfortunately I've been mostly working alone, we'd love some more contributors! If you know any of: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Jekyll, or Liquid templates then check out the Github and maybe submit some pull requests to help us out

We'd like to keep the project simple, but here's our issues list for ideas

something that didn't get mentioned in the announcement but I think is nice, the Chat view has been fixed!

https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy-ui/issues/1639#issuecomment-2172090390

I believe it was fixed here https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy-ui/pull/2480

it even allows sorting in either direction, you can do Chat view with New or Old sort!

In a universe where bagels meet bars, the BAGEL engine has been perfectly toasted, and the ScummVM team is now ready to serve a slice of The Space Bar nostalgia. No, it’s not the key on your keyboard. Rather, it’s a detective story set on a distant planet. Important data has been stolen, and the perpetrator is a shape-shifter laying low in a spaceport dive bar until he can flee off-planet. You play a hard-boiled detective who has the skill to psychically visit bar patrons’ memories to gather clues and narrow down suspects.

This is thanks to the kind people at ZOOM Platform, who provided us with the original game sources to work with. Help us test the game by grabbing a daily build. Read through our testing guidelines. The game features a lot of options to chat around with bar patrons’ and do various actions in the different flashbacks. So we really need people to spend time experimenting and make sure everything works correctly. And please take some screenshots along the way.

If you don’t own The Space Bar, you can try one of the free demos or purchase it digitally from the ZOOM Platform. Testing is also available on Steam via a beta branch, check the Steam announcement for more details.

Now, good luck, and fingers crossed you can find the perp. Otherwise, your bureau chief will have you getting up close and personal with toilet duties for the rest of your career. Oh, and PS: The viewpoints of different aliens differ. For the Bartender, who has segmented eyes, even the original developers felt it was difficult and left in a cheat key of ScrollLock to switch back to a single viewpoint. Feel free to use it if, at any point, the flashback becomes too much for you :)

What a crossover

If you don't know what Deus Ex Randomizer is, then here's our old trailer which shows a breakdown of how it works:

v2.0 Trailer

Here's a trailer for WaltonWare mode. WaltonWare mode is focused on quick wins by completing a single bingo line, and increasing difficulty after every win. The bingo goals are all scaled to their minimum settings and you start in a random area. All bingo goals will be completable within just a few maps!

WaltonWare Trailer

Here's a trailer for our new Mirrored Maps feature in v2.5. Play through the game with a random mix of mirrored maps, which will keep you on your toes even more than the randomizer has before!

Major Changes

  • You can now pet the dog! And other animals too. With bingo goals.
    • image
  • Loot Refusal for looting carcasses.
    • Check your defaults in the Rando -> Gameplay menu.
    • On your inventory screen you have buttons to mark items as trash or not trash, these are only remembered for the current run (since the stats change every run/seed). Marking an item as trash will also drop it.
    • Trash items will fall from carcasses when you loot them instead of going into your inventory, but you can still pick them up from there.
  • Turn off any glow on datacubes once you've read them, which helps finding datacubes that are close together.
  • Reworked Synthetic Heart aug. It no longer uses energy on its own, it just multiplies the energy cost of the boosted augs.
  • Reworked Spy Drone aug. Energy cost is reduced greatly, but detonating the Spy Drone now costs 10 energy. (You can disable the aug for free.)
  • Fixed jail reducing your ammo, especially for grenades.
  • Speedrun mode now defaults to realtime menus. Fixed the crash when changing levels with windows open. Also autorun is a little smarter now. By the way, we now have an official speedrun leaderboard on https://www.speedrun.com/dxrando
  • Fixed GMDX v10 crash "missing Animal.ModifyDamage" (Issue #767)

Minor Changes

  • Airfield hanger code datacube no longer allowed under turrets at security tower door.
  • Jock leaves the bar before flying to the NSF warehouse
  • More info in messages after using medbots/repair bots.
  • Restore 2 Nicollete lines in the Chateau cellar.
  • Fix crates that allow you to jump out of the Warehouse sewer water.
  • fix Anna pepper spray when EMP'd and other issues with shielded enemies.
  • PS20/40 get thrown away more quickly.
  • Buffed update notifications.
  • Speedrun splits display tweaks and smarter balanced splits.
  • Toned down lamps a bit to retain the original mood of the game.
  • Fixed some floating nanokeys and datacubes.
  • Bingo Goal for disabling electrical control panels in Vandenberg Computer room no longer gets completed by merging Helios.
  • Highlighting decorations will now show the proper number of shots from sabot and explosive weapons.
  • Laser emitters now take damage from sabot and explosives even when under the min damage threshold, to match behaviour of other breakable objects. Highlight text reflects this as well.
  • Tweaks to baby grays and baby karkians.
  • Smuggler's elevator is now smarter.
  • Fixed alliances in versalife when you steal the rom encoding.
  • Fixed Lucky Money police getting angry at you too easily.
  • Fixes for WaltonWare starts in the middle of Hong Kong and Area 51.
  • Add elevator Open Door button texture to the millions of elevators.
  • Miguel no longer hates shots in UNATCO HQ.
  • Doors at elevator down to Area 51 sector 3 can now be opened again by the call button after Bob stops blabbing about the man who did the job.
  • Lay D Denton now has more randomized clothes.
  • Zero Rando books now add to your notes too.
