Apologies, I can see how I was confusing. I was listing both Nintendo and PC games that came to mind; Kings Quest and Black Cauldron were PC

Many of the early console and PC games were only solvable by finding answers in published magazines. Nintendo was notorious for this - they had their own magazine called Nintendo POWER and a hotline you could call to get tips. A few that come to mind:
Blaster Master / Goonies 2 / Mad Max / The Kings Quest games / The Black Caludron
It would be a bad look if this crime went unsolved, so they've already collected "evidence" and they will find the "guy".
Ah, yes, I had in my mind it was on par with Aliens but probably a step above that gore-wise.
Based on OP's likes The Thing is spot on
Nah its like 18k USD or so if you're uninsured. 3k or so if you are. Daycare and supplies are brutal though, probably 20k on average annually - higher if you live in an expensive state. Childcare specific costs get cheaper as they grow and eventually they hit public school. Past that you still have to cloth, feed, transport and lodge them - so just imagine what you spend on yourself and thats about what you spend on each child.
