I think I know what I want to be for Halloween this year!
I read all the Jack Reacher books a couple years ago, and one of the fascinating things about the character is his aversion to owning things. In some of the books, he talks about it a little and it’s an interesting insight to that worldview. I think they kind of stopped talking about it in newer books, and the character has gotten kind of less interesting because of it. At one point, he inherits a house, and that seems to become a minor trauma for him!
Ok. You mean the ban of specific guns or types of guns. I do agree that assault weapons bans are troublesome, mostly because the people deciding what makes a gun an “assault” weapon don’t really know what they’re talking about. That said, I do think there are weapons that the average person should absolutely not be able to purchase. At least, not without formal training. Beyond this, guns in general are still available, and if legislatures pass these kinds of laws, they can be rescinded with the next election if the population wants that. While it’s not ideal for gun enthusiasts, it’s not like they don’t have all sorts of alternative options.
Sources for gun bans passing?
It’s going to be a long 3-and-change years if someone doesn’t realize that “move fast and break things” is not a good way to run a country.
It’s already been a long 5-years since January!
The Great American Cultural Revolution is underway! Everyone make sure to get their little gold book!
This is a reasonable approach, and probably the goal of most rational historians. All the famous people throughout history were all fallible humans. None of them were perfect. Someone recently asked me if Ben Franklin was “kind of a dick.” I told them he was a pretty successful guy in his time, so you probably wouldn’t have had to look very far to find someone pointing out how and why he was a dick. Didn’t diminish the other positive things he did. Just a reminder that he was human.
I would agree that it’s not socialism, but it is market manipulation. The US didn’t just bail out GM. Right now, AMD’s like, “WTF y’all!?”
This sounds like a song lyric.
Lonely people need all sorts of help. Sometimes just having someone to talk to is enough. Plus, a lot of men have a hard time asking for help, especially for something as “unmanly” as loneliness. This can make someone offering help significantly more effective. Additionally, for a number of people, it’s just easier to open up to someone of the same sex.
Doesn’t really matter for today. We’re just making a list for historians to argue over long after the inevitable fall. The US is not a country of laws for the ruling class.
