Fair enough, if it works for you it works for you and that's all that matters, though I would like to see someone eating soup with chopsticks! I like that, if you don't get my humour, than I just come off as a dick, but hey ho you can't please everyone.

Oh no, the two pans that should go together so naturally clash? Somethings not right there!

I'd say just ask the Witch King of Angband how sexist Tolkien was, but he's not around anymore πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

I'm interested to know what you mean by odd? Do you eat soup with a fork? Stand on your head while eating? And in my experience, weirdos are always the most fun people!

Wow, you really do live a hobbit life don't you, sitting smoking old Toby with your needles and patchwork πŸ˜‚ sounds amazingly creative!

And to be fair, that does sound like Sam. Probably really down plays his part in it all, and just gives all the credit to Mr Frodo.

Or maybe she's a Tolkenite herself and I'd just waiting to jump in!

I was picky as a child, I'm much better now, and I used to love beans, but I have bean related trauma that put me off for life πŸ˜‚

I'm glad you made time for it, as it is a doorway into another world, and one beautifully put together no less. Ha, Tolkien can be quite exerting to read at the best of times if you have a tired mind, so I can only imagine how bad that must of been!

I do have a soft spot for Elrond, and to be fair he's one of the big positives in Rings, I think the actor deserves a lot of credit, he's brilliant ass character and brilliantly acted. I always had a soft spot for Rosie (mostly stemming from a childhood crush on her in the film to be embarrassingly honest) but your reasoning is sound, do you think Sam ever told her?

And no need to apologise, it's the Internet, there's always a risk two nerds will find each other and go off on a tangent πŸ˜‚

My absolute disdain for baked beans in the tomatoe sauce has put me off other beans, but I can at least stomach them if need be, so we may be OK πŸ‘Œ

I tried first when I was much younger and it just blew my little head off trying to make sense of whati was reading, but I tried again as I got older and it clicked for me so I'm glad I tried again. It's good you get to experience it in both languages though.

As weird as it seems, FΓ«anor, to me at least, seems the most human character if that makes sense. Like, it seems he has human flaws, his pride and arrogance, while not being unearned, being the best at what he does, I don't know, it just seemed he was more multi layered than the majority if characters, so Ive always enjoyed him.

How about you?

I get that, and fair play sticking to your swords over it, I had to give my head a fair few wobbles before I could get to the point im at now but I got there in the end.

Theres not many things I dislike more than marmite, but one thing I despise over everything, Is. Baked. Beans. Just when I thought we could be friends πŸ˜”. Though marmite gravy is a new thing to me. Id give it a try, just so I could tip it away like Eowyns soup.

Now I'm the envious one! What a perfect life to live (except the marmite, you can keep that all the way over there, thank you please) and you can make homemade crumpets!? Wow. Maybe one day I'll reintroduce the Longleaf back into my life and put my feet up for a bit, the way it should be.

And you're 100 percent right, if you're going to do it, do it right and do it well, or don't do it all. There is something inherently weird watching the series but like I said before, I switch my brain off an treat it like an alternate universe instead, so I can enjoying it for what it is

It is nice to travel around the area and think I could live here if I was a Hobbit and such, I'd love to live in a hole eating crumpets πŸ˜‚

Wow, you've really gone deep with that cook book, what an endeavour that must of been! I do miss my Old Toby days, I can totally understand it helping.

I've just had to look it up, and apparently he's just missing, presumed dead but will come back in the future. I love the 'If you ever feel useless, remember that Galadriel had a husband' meme, I just hope they can do the great Elf justice when he finally shows his pointy ears. Celebrian not being mentioned is odd to me, seeing as we have Elrond, so I'll have to wait and see how they get around that πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

Ha, I'll just leave it at that and not tell you about the bedroom, come hither eyes they make at each other! I don't even know where Celeborn is during this period, but I hope he comes into it at some point.

The man was a genius, and I'm actually from the West Midlands where he based Middle Earth on!

I do think it would be so difficult to portray a lot of the Silmarillion, as there's a lot of abstract and fantastical elements to it, but they said Lord of the Rings itself could never be filmed, and I'm so glad they were wrong about that. I've just come off a marathon myself this weekend and that cookbook sounds like an amazing idea

[–] CapOnBackwards@fedinsfw.app 1 points 1 month ago (33 children)

Oh for sure, it's one of the things I couldn't stomach about Rings, Galadriel and Sauron looking like they're catching feelings... Just no.

The tale of Turin would be epic to see played out with the money of Amazon, the universe is full of amazing stories, which does make you think why they had to embellish and twist so much to make Rings work.

I'd pay a lot of money to watch Tulkas wrestle Melkor to the ground, but it's probably a pipe dream πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

[–] CapOnBackwards@fedinsfw.app 1 points 1 month ago (35 children)

I totally agree, I'm apprehensive about the hunt for gollum, and it wouldn't be my first choice of subject to revisit middle earth, only time will tell on that front.

Is really like to see something from the dawn of time, with the song and the beginning of everything. Though I fear they'd make Melkor a tragic hero with a love interest and redeemable qualities!

[–] CapOnBackwards@fedinsfw.app 1 points 1 month ago (37 children)

You make some really good points, and it wounds me a bit that we got Rings of Power, instead of a prequel set in FΓ«anors time, or the war of wrath. I'd love to see a series based around that. How they'd portray Ungolaint is beyond me, but I'd like to see an attempt!

Maybe one day 🀞

That's exactly where I stand with him, a foot in each camp. How much death and destruction could of been avoided if he'd let the Valar reclaim the light from the Silmarils, though we don't know how Morgoth would of reacted to it and what the ramifications would of been there, but I do think that was a mistake on his part.

The Valar are a walking joke to me, Morgotg was released on their say so, with no fucks given to his actions afterwards. Walking. Joke.
