On March 28, 1979, and for several days thereafter — as a result of technical malfunctions and human error — Three Mile Island's Unit 2 Nuclear Generating Station was the scene of the nation’s worst commercial nuclear accident. Radiation was released, a part of the nuclear core was damaged, and thousands of residents evacuated the area. Events here would cause basic changes throughout the world’s nuclear power industry.

And nothing happened. It wasn't a disaster, it was well contained, it quickly mitigated. It was, however, a nuclear PR disaster.

Yep. The fact that Microsoft is now paying to bring reactor No. 1 back online gives me hope that the PR damage is healing, 46 years after the incident.

My husband grew up very close to Three Mile. His Mom was in high school when the accident happened.

When he was little he actually thought that the reactors created the clouds 😂. All the white steam was visible from his front porch.

Apparently the schools required parents to sign waivers so they could administer iodine tablets to kids if another accident occurred. Apparently they were PREPARED just in case they ever had trouble again!

Highly recommend the documentary for anyone curious about the accident!
