Thank you for keeping us updated. With all the noise on the world stage, the real tragedies are being silenced.
Destruction is pretty wide-spread. Some more videos of the scenes in Mandalay I believe: https://youtu.be/be8fz5lBJmo

A detailed science article on the earthquake: https://earthquakeinsights.substack.com/p/catastrophic-m77-earthquake-caused. Interestingly, the new Mandalay International Airport is built right ON the fault line.
This is a fantastically written article.
"Typically, aftershock rates decay as 1/time, so that by ten days after the earthquake, the rate has dropped to 10% of the first day. However, aftershocks are also irregular, and the potential for triggering of another large earthquake will remain elevated for many years."
I hope you and the people you care about are safe
Thanks. I'm safe in Canada. I have friends whose relatives are from Mandalay. Waiting to hear about what they faced. No news yet.
My daughter in law was able to reach her family there, family home in Yangon partially damaged, same for her dad's office in the capital.
One of her brothers was in Bangkok when it happened and nobody has been able to reach him yet.
Photos from Naypyidaw:
I hope her family is safe? I had not heard of damage in Rangoon till you mentioned it but it makes sense. Friends have not been able to get through to relatives in Mandalay.
Just heard, the last brother is now accounted for and is returning from Bangkok tonight, so everyone in the family is safe! Good news too because as with any family there are some little little kids too.
But yeah, if there was damage in Bangkok, then pretty much all of Myanmar is in the danger zone.
I'm glad to hear that for your DIL.
We're thrilled. She and our son were supposed to be flying back in April, but man, that doesn't seem likely now.
Yeah it's better to be cautious at this time.
