Industrial steam industry. If there's another boilermaker on here I haven't met them.

I work as a Bartender/server in a fine dining setting. There seem to be a few of us lurking around. The cocktail community has a little action. But nothing huge yet.

Thanks for sharing. Yes, [email protected] is reasonably active indeed, let's see how it evolves!

I am an exercise physiologist. There is no active community on reddit, so even less on lemmy. If you know some rehabilitation or physical exercise subs I'll be happy to join them ! :)

Your knowledge might be valuable on [email protected]!!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Very nice! You wouldn't happen to have any tips to help me recover from thoracic outlet syndrome, would you? 😅

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm currently working in cardiology so it's a little bit out of my scope. 😬 It doesn't seem to be well studied but you can find some informations here. Have you ever consulted a physiotherapist ? They are more specialized in pain management than exercise physiologists.

Hey thanks for the reply! Yes, I've met with my primary care provider and been taking corticosteroids for inflammation which seems to be dramatically helping. I guess I was wondering about stretching vs non-stretching and if you had any knowledge of it, but no worries either way- it is healing!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 weeks ago

I hope you will heal soon ! The litterature recommand stretching and progressive resistance training of the muscle groups involved in the movements that limit you. 😊

Bartender, no community that I'm aware of but it's a tradition to visit the cocktail communities and laugh/ rage at the the pretentious cocktail snobs there.

I drive trains for a living. Freight trains. Locomotive engineer.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

Ditto. Can't seem to find the Lemmy r/railroading equivalent yet.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 weeks ago

They missed a prime opportunity to call it /r/ailroading instead

Well, there is also a difference between railroad employee communities and a railfan community. Big difference. Thanks for looking.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 weeks ago

Oh definitely. I was just pointing those out as you may have some luck asking over there is there are other railroad employees

I am a homesteader/artist. Communities are starting some now but they're few and far between. I'm certainly an outlier on Lemmy as communities for my interests go. I grew up building PC's and accessing internet for Usenet but now I am old and I've lost track. I was an early adopter of piracy and Reddit when it came around. These places have kept me from paying for tv and movies for over 20 years as well as keeping in touch with privacy somewhat.

I've seen a few of your posts on [email protected], they look cool!

Office Admin for Post Secondary. There is no office admin community, and there's an academia community

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago

I'm a bicycle mechanic. Most of us are technophobic so i doubt there's another one

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 weeks ago

I am a scientist. Quite a few around here.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 weeks ago

Project Manager for a silicon photonics company. I haven’t really looked for an active community on Lemmy yet for project management. I was on the Reddit sub for PMs which actually had great discussions sometimes.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

Event planner. Started as a technician, running lights and/or sound for events. Concerts, dance shows, musicals, corporate sales events, etc… Eventually fell into the admin and planning side of things, because freelancing isn’t a viable retirement strategy.

No, I doubt I’ll ever see a community here. But that’s alright; If I wanted to talk about work, I’d talk to coworkers.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

I do science in genomics, bioinformatics, fungi, and plants. Im not sure if there are specific communities

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 weeks ago

Medical Device Quality Manager... I doubt I will ever see a community here about my field and I'm quite happy about that 😅 I'm here to escape work not read up on it

I'm an environmental health officer, formerly a food technologist. I inspect food businesses (home businesses all the way up to big manufacturers), childcare facilities, hospitals, accommodation (hotels, motels, aged care, rooming houses), beauty businesses (nails, tattoo, waxing, etc), recreational water (pools, beaches, lakes, etc), wastewater systems.

I investigate complaints regarding any of the above, pests, environmental pollution (dust, noise, nuisance complaints), secondary impact assessments (after a major incident like fire, flood, earthquake), food borne illnesses, communicable diseases, food recalls.

Not an inclusive list. We are on the prevention side rather than the reactive side like nurses and doctors, so we tend to go unnoticed.

I don't think there's an active community anywhere for EHOs. Anyone know of any? I follow some food communities, but that's it. I don't get involved with people arguing about food safety on the internet because there are some people whose minds can't be changed.

Edit: Sorry, this came out way longer than I expected. Still in bed, haven't had coffee yet, still kind of groggy.. But it's the weekend.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Anyone know of any?

I don't think there's any indeed, maybe at some point when we get a larger userbase. You might be the only person in the platform working in that field

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

We are a rare breed for sure. Always happy to discuss any topics related to my job any time, but not argue or try to convince people they're going to get someone sick. I do that enough during work hours.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 weeks ago

That makes sense!

I am in my "50 years old and working a shitty remote job as an expat because I just don't give a fuck anymore" phase. I answer emails from clients regarding financial matters. Very boring stuff. There's no community here for it, and thank Jeebus for that. Honestly, AI could do my job (and it often does, but don't tell my boss).

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Auto Insurance. I mean, I'm sure there's a community around hating it. 😂

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 weeks ago

Indeed ha ha
