This is correct, but there was a revival in the UK in the 1980's. It was the latter that influenced the ska-punk genre.

It is so weird to have the picture as a preview of the wiki post; talking about one of the purest form of black music (rocksteady, ska, reggae) but having a white band as representative image is a select choice.

Would make more sense to have a picture of someone from the first wave of ska like Desmond Dekker.

Ah, I get you. I myself thought the HXC logo with the X in a circle (which stands for hardcore) was Cyrillic for "sound", or someone simply told me and I believed them.
