I'm not particularly fond of cuck licenses.

That actually does describe the class of licences fairly accurately. Companies specifically love cuck licenses because of their unfree propagation properties.

Anti Commercial-AI license

what's with this language?

Do you have a better description? I think "Cuck license" actually covers it very well: You build your bestest robotic waifu, when Intel-sama kicks in the door, and fucks her right in front of you, impregnating her, and then leaving and never coming back, leaving everyone a victim.

Because that's effectively what happened to Andrew Tanenbaum's Minix kernel (which was used by intel to enable the Intel Management chip, which has even more control over your machine than your own CPU). Had Tanenbaum used GPL, intel would've been legally forced to open source the code, enabling us users to see what's actually running inside.

what the fuck is wrong with you?

Pretty sure it’s a shock and awe strategy by the author to make the term stick. And it worked.

It works to make others dismiss you and your arguments - I'll never take anyone seriously who decides to express themselves like this.

[–] Colloidal@programming.dev -2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

In case you haven’t noticed, I didn’t coin the term.

https://duckduckgo.com/?q=Cuck+%E2%80%9Clicense%E2%80%9D

The web did.

But don’t let that stop you on your crusade to clean the web of foul words. I wish you all the best.

Again: you choose to use the term. It's not a term you use for efficiency, as you have to explain to others what it means.

The web also didn't force you to use it.

i've never heard anyone refer to those licences with that term before now, and instantly made me shy away. it's not only shock and awe, it's a shitty take that plays on right-wing talking points to reframe "wanting to be useful to others" as something sexual. it's the stupidest take i've never seen.

You have the link to the guy’s blog, go shout that at him.

He’s proposing the GPL instead of these licenses, not exactly selfish. I don’t think the issue is being useful. Is complaining After people used your license as per its terms.

[–] lime@feddit.nu 1 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

you're aping him so i'm yelling at you.

what he's complaining about is called Open Source. the entire point of Open Source is to be an alternative to the GPL because people found its terms too strict to work with. ignoring years of history for the sake of a gotcha term with misogynist connotations is shitty.

[–] Colloidal@programming.dev -1 points 9 months ago

You’re getting way too worked up against an internet stranger. Maybe take some time to appreciate what’s good around you and get into a better headspace.

And I strongly disagree cuck has any misogynist connotations, but that’s way beside the point.
