I used to run something like this with a tube buffer amp, and an old iPod, into some Realistic Minimus 7's that I made an actual crossover for.

My ex says she still loves the setup, and it's the first thing she does when she moves house. (She moves for work frequently).

I actually made two, one is a standalone, the other is built into a Minimus 7 using its metal shell as a heat sink. I got a cheap Bluetooth receiver for it, and it accepts 1/8". So the portable one is power in, jumper from one speaker to the other, you're done. It's nice for an office or smaller room.

I built a dock for the iPod with charging, data in, and audio out. Put Rockbox on it, etc.
