My last feline friend to pass made it 18 years. I was a college freshman when he was born and a college professor when he died. I cried for him more than I ever have for a human and I doubt I will ever feel the visceral loss like that again.

After a lifetime of teaching us about unconditional love, our pets go and teach us about death and letting go, too. They just never stop giving. I’m so sorry for your loss. Been there. It hurts.
