I discovered gemini through the tildeverse. Various tilde servers support it, e.g. gemini://gemini.ctrl-c.club
(Sorry to not answer your question; Just came to say that personally I haven't looked more into gemini in general because I read this blog post by the developer of curl about the protocol itself)
Yes it has it fault but it's not a valid reason to not try it. You will be fascinated by the community surrounded around Gemini!
