This is literally the first I ever heard of it.
Technology
News community around technology, social media platforms, information technology and governmental policy surrounding it.
What doesn't fit here?
The core of the story has to be technology focused.
- If article mentions "AI" in a sentence and then talks about business economics that doesn't make it tech news.
- Gaming is too many layers removed from technology. There are many dedicated communities that are a better fit for it.
- Transporation is too many layers removed from technology. EVs while use many cool technologies have many dedicated communities that are a better fit for it.
- Entertainment is too many layers removed from technology. While sometimes it can fit here, business or cultural aspects of it are a better fit for dedicated communities.
- Cybersecurity. While it heavily focuses on technology, most of the time it's too technical for most people who are not already invested in it. Should be posted in a dedicated communities unless it has broader connection to other tech areas.
Post guidelines
Title format
Post title should mirror the news source title. If you don't like the title of article, look for an alternative source instead of editorializing it.
URL format
Post URL should be the original link to the article (even if paywalled) and archived copies left in the body. It allows avoiding duplicate posts when cross-posting.
[Opinion] prefix
Opinion (op-ed) articles must use [Opinion] prefix before the title. Opinion articles refer to articles that their publisher doesn't explictly endorse.
Country prefix
Country prefix can be added to the title with a separator (|, :, etc.) if the news is from a local publisher who doesn't clearly mention the country.

They made you use it if you ever had to talk to enterprise support for Amazon web services. It had similar vibes to WebEx conferencing. They have been dog fooding it internally for years, but Amazon doesn’t know UI/UX so this isn’t shocking to me.
Chime was a piece of shit. But it had a killer feature. If you had a meeting, and you accepted it, that shit would blow up your screen to join. I NEED that.
I am so desensitized to the constant onslaught of work notifications that a little popup just doesn't cut it for me.
If anyone has suggestions, lmk.Gobless

I have two questions ... Zoom is still a thing? Amazon had a Zoom alternative?
Chime sucked ass and was complete trash. It seems most people I have met with from AWS couldn't stand it either.
Zoom is still a thing and generally has better performance than Google Meet or whatever the fuck that Microsoft solution is.
Cisco WebEx is just slowly dying and should have been put down years ago.
I prefer Google meet to zoom (I use both from a professional standpoint)
I work for local government and we routinely use Zoom.
did some job interviews last month, had to install MS Teams, Cisco Webex, Google Meet, and Zoom... glad there is competition, but damn
some you can at least join and use without an 'app' or an install, via browser.
yea, i think i did browser only on google meets, Webex only used once for an interview for one of the national labs run by the dod, they were quite specific about downloading the thing, so i did. Teams was already installed for previous job
is there a generally recommended foss alternative? self host servers ok.
I have some people that want to do zoom meetings for some stuff but not only is it closed source, shitty in general, and counterintuitive, it has a time limit. Like what the actual fuck...
It's a rare case when FOSS is actually superior to any proprietary alternative.
thanks. this looks good, I'll check it out
I don’t know of any personally, but if someone was to develop it, the North Star should be Around imo.
It’s one of the best video conferencing apps I’ve ever used. I’ve used them all, even obscure ones you’ve probably never heard of. Miro Labs is unfortunately shutting Around down in a month though after acquiring it and folding whatever bits they wanted into their own software.
