The former Williams Racing F1 driver joined IDEC Sport in December, as part of a programme that is meant to prepare Korean automaker Genesis for the launch of its new LMDh prototype programme in the 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship. Sargent was due to share the #18 ORECA 07 LMP2 with Jamie Chadwick and Mathys Jaubert as part of Genesisโ€™ 2025 โ€˜trajectory programme.โ€™

But today, IDEC Sport confirmed that Sargeant will not race for the team, saying: โ€œFollowing the decision of Logan Sargeant to step away from the sport to pursue other interests, IDEC Sport and Genesis Magma Racing are taking note of his decision and will announce his substitute in the next few days. We wish Logan all the best in his projects.โ€

Highly doubt it was his decision. This is just Hyundaiโ€™s way to save face for Sargent and Hyundai.

I guess we'll see if he'll drive somewhere else. Having a former F1 driver in the roster is lucrative for teams because it attracts sponsors. Jack Aitken replaced George Russell at Williams for only one race and didn't even last that long there, yet, he's now "former F1 driver Jack Aitken". Also, it turned out he's a great sportscar driver who's now racing Cadillac's hypercar in IMSA.

The upcoming season in an LMP2 would be a good indicator of Sargeant's performance. It makes little sense to fire him before that, unless there are non-performance reasons to do so.

Sad trombone. I feel bad for the guy because I think he tried as hard as he could but it was a case of too much money, not enough talent.
