Israel has even sent a delegation to Cairo to begin talks, and a handful of US (GOP) politicians are walking back Trump's "Gaza plan" as something they don't believe will materialise.

Israel's ultimate goal will always be the permanent expulsion of Palestinians from all of "greater israel" but it cannot achieve that through war alone.
