Most of the time when people say they have an unpopular opinion, it turns out it's actually pretty popular.

Do you have some that's really unpopular and most likely will get you downvoted?

Consuming drugs should not be illegal. Doesnt matter what effect the drug has, punishing the consumer does no good for anyone.

Selling drugs can and should in some cases be illegal though

Except where actual safety is concerned, all information should be public. That means Individuals, businesses, authorities, governments, etc, should not be able to hold any information privately, it should all be freely available to everyone. There only private information is what you can hold in your head.

Anyone who thinks about this idea for more than 30 seconds decides it is a really bad idea. I honestly believe that true information freedom will also free the human race, and that is the unpopular part. Everyone seemed to think I'm naive but people are just frightened kids and secrets are their first line of defense.

As a species we need a mix of progressive and conservative people. Progressives act as a sort of antennae force finding new ways to approach the world while conservatives are there for if we progress in a way that is ultimately harmful. Finding the right balance and control system is the hard part, not fitting everyone into a progressive or conservative ideology

Handicapped parking spaces should be reserved only for those who require an assistive device that necessities additional room around their vehicle for unloading and loading.

In a hypothetical world in which protected handicap parking didn’t exist, these people would be burdened by needing to always find parking spaces with an additional empty space next to them, and hoping that space remained empty when they return. Too high a burden.

So we rightfully have built into our civic and building codes the requirement that a certain number of protected handicap parking spaces be available. At least in my jurisdiction if you look at protected handicap parking, you’ll see that every space has an additional half space next to it to allow for egress of assistive devices. Without these protective half spaces built into every handicap parking space, people requiring such devices would face the undue burden I mentioned above; these handicap spaces give people equal access.

My controversial take is that only people requiring such devices should be granted access to these spaces. Yes, I know that there are many people that have a more difficult time walking and can benefit from closer proximity to their destination, but in my opinion, these requirements shouldn’t be for the “benefit” of anyone, but only the equal treatment for those facing the aforementioned undue burden.

In my opinion, for every one person needing an assistive device, and every two people who would simply benefit from close proximity, there are numerous people who use handicap parking for convenience. I’ve seen motorcycles with handicapped parking placards for goodness sake.

"This" comments (on Reddit and Lemmy) are not a bad thing. An upvote is supposed to promote valuable content, not necessarily stuff you agree with. A "this" shows agreement. These are different things, and hunting down the "this" promotes the "upvote to agree, downvote to disagree" mentality.

(For example I said "this" to one comment on this thread, which was an unpopular opinion I agreed with. I upvoted plenty of other opinions I found interesting (and actually unpopular) while not necessarily agreeing with them.)

If you live in a city and have no backyard or similar, you should not be allowed to own a dog.

Humanity is doomed in the short term by its own hand, and that is the absolute best fucking thing that can happen for the planet and the other life on it medium to long term.

We appear to be a self-solving blight upon the natural world. As the late, great George Carlin put it, the planet is ramping up to "shake us off like a bad case of fleas. A surface nuisance."

As a species, we've proven beyond all doubt that we are too malicious to be stewards of this world, and too self-important to ever peacefully recede in numbers in order to find equilibrium with this world as inhabitants, rather than have dominion over it.

Our macro-cancer ass of a species has got to go.

Houses and similar private property should be owned by the state and be given out to those in need for free, rather than owned by private individuals to sell/rent and make a profit. It's literally a basic human need that's becoming less and less accessible due to greed (constantly rising prices and scams landlords might try to pull), and it's very easy to just lose one if you're unfortunate enough to be unemployed for a longer period of time.

Most human males should be castrated.

Men commit almost all rape and murder, but no one seems to think this is a problem we need to do anything about. If any other group committed 90% of serious crimes – let's say immigrants – people would be calling for them to be rounded up and exiled. But when it's men, that's just the way things are, nothing to be done about it.

But we know exactly what to do about it when we're talking about other species. We castrate male cattle because bulls are dangerous and steer aren't. Violent criminals typically have elevated testosterone levels. It doesn't take a genius to realize that putting men on testosterone-blockers is going to make them less dangerous.

What will be the other effects?

  1. Men will be be weaker—Meh, physical strength is less useful now than it was in the past.
  2. They'll have less hair on their bodies and more on their heads—Awesome.
  3. They'll won't be able to get hard—That's what viagra is for.
  4. They'll lose fertility—They can go off blockers while they're trying to have a child. Or you could just have a small number of uncastrated sperm donors.

I'm an anarchist, so I don't want to force this on anyone. But if I believed in prisons or police, I would also believe in mandatory castration.

Blaming slow drivers for your dangerous driving to pass them immediately and dangerously has the same energy as a rapist blaming what the victim was wearing: The other person made me do it. I have no agency over my own reactions.

We were the bad guys in WWII and dropping atomic bombs on Japan was the most evil act of war ever done.
