Pixelfed has been making incredible strides over the past few years, and has begun developing a suite of different platforms and services for the Fediverse. After just one day on Kickstarter, they've already smashed their campaign goal.

But they still need your help!

This is great to hear, dansup has been stretched across so many projects for so long so hopefully this really supercharges pixelfed (and friends) development and helps to increase the diversity of AP servers.

I chipped in before it was at 20% and the emails about it hitting the next mark and the next were exhilarating! :)

I decided not to keep supporting Pixelfed after the weird coments dansup was making about people developing other clients and his apparent wish of putting ads on the platform. I was already getting people from my circle to create accounts on it, so it was very disappointing.

There's also another whole situation with the way he speaks but that isn't that much of an issue for me

@deadsuperhero this is what I am getting when I click on the link. I think this is still a wp/ap plugin issue from a while ago

Gah. Sorry that it's still happening, I'm not totally sure why it happens, beyond the server choking while federating. I'll keep investigating. 😞

Sorry, our provider had an outage around that time. We should be good now!

Good for them but copying the bad parts of Instagram like forcing squares, throwing out image metadata (including license & color profiles), & compressing to hell means it is not the kind of platform I would want to upload my images to.

Without compression, every instance would have to deal with issues of free space, which is very sensitive when we talk about small servers ran on good will of the people.

There is compression & then there is whatever mangling Instagram does. But these are things an admin should be able to tweak as the defaults are are just not good enough for photography. You can’t be stripping color profiles, forcing sRGB, & camera data for these contexts—not to mention just trying to get a crisp image. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were using WebP too 🤢

Admin options would be cool - although this would exacerbate the issue of picking an I stance and then figuring out your pick was wrong for your purpose. Fediverse generally tries to avoid that.
