  2. Memes must be Rome-related, not just the title. It can be about Rome, or using Roman aesthetics, or both, but the meme itself needs to have Roman themes.

Explanation: The Mexican and Italian flags are very similar, save that Mexico has a cool elaborate crest with an eagle (eating a snake, I think) in the middle.

The joke made is that in the Battle of Teutoberg Forest, the Romans lost three Legions and their accompanying legionary eagle standards (aquilae) to a German ambush, thus, the reason the Italian flag lacks an eagle is because they 'lost' their's.

For a bit of irony on top, the Italian puppet state controlled by Germany after Mussolini was overthrown used a version of the Italian flag with an eagle on it, so the one time they got the eagle back was when Germany was giving them marching orders

Actual answer, for those who are curious: Italy had it first, but that version of Italy changed it for a different one and then fell apart. Mexico then adopted its version while there was no united Italy. So the Italian one is older, but the Mexican one has been in continuous use for longer

Wasn't Libya's flag just green for decades?
