Taiwan carried out its first execution in five years.

This is the first case of capital punishment under President Lai Ching-te, who took office last year.

Rights groups and the European Union condemned Taiwan's use of capital punishment and called on the country to apply and maintain a de facto moratorium.

Apparently they just shoot the condemned rather than trying to build weird contraptions like the USA does.
