Are they allowing more contact than the women’s matches at the Olympics officially allow? Do they have to wear the face cage mask?

I only got into watching sports because of the PWHL, so I cannot answer this specifically. But here is the rules pages (which it turns out these graphics are also posted there) and it has a link to the rulebook pdf. I will look at it later when I am at my laptop.
9.7 Facial Protection
All players must wear a full–face protection (full–visor, or cage facial protection), properly fixed to the helmet. Players without the mentioned protection are not allowed to participate in a game.
