He has been held in power by the Russians since 2010 or so. Guess they are occupied elsewhere these days.
The UK born wife and kids are in Russia, presumably je will head there via... somewhere and has a stash of cash available

I forsee something like egypt happening, the "opposition" forces have a lot of islamists, and they're going to have to deal with ISIL and the Kurds so, that's going to cause a lot of further conflicts.
