Donald Trump may have made the decision to launch the war that tanked voters’ support for the GOP and dealt them a midterm shellacking. But the historic losses are accelerating a push for someone else to take the fall: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

And the House could vote as soon as next week to impeach the Pentagon’s top leader.

Many Republican lawmakers and allies alarmed by Tuesday’s wipeout are moving swiftly to pin blame for the election results on Hegseth, arguing behind the scenes that he played a chief role in convincing Trump to attack Iran with no exit strategy — and no plan for managing the inevitable political fallout.

The knives-out campaign comes despite private acknowledgement from House and Senate GOP strategists that the party’s problems extended far beyond the war, triggering 2008-level losses that will take years to reverse. But for now, party leaders – and many in their ranks – remain unwilling to directly blame Trump for their woes.

The drunk racist fuck-up has a boss who needs to be in the same courthouse and eventual prison. The internal Government of Putin attacks will reveal more information about their corruption and BS.

[–] Hikermick@lemmy.world 7 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

I worry there's an effort to blame the midterm bloodbath solely on the war. The GOP still has two months to push their agenda.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 4 points 2 hours ago

And Jeffries wants to blame it entirely on affordability. He’s not right either: we need to resist any incumbents trying to pigeonhole it into any single issue.

It is the war. It is affordability. It is corruption. It is violation of human rights. It is the administration acting above the law. It is capricious cancellation of services which saved lives. And it certainly is the appointment of incompetent sycophants to positions that used to be meritorious

Can we also toss the worm brain guy?

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 11 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

The in fighting and finger pointing will be wilder than a Mexican soap opera.

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 7 points 4 hours ago

¡Dios mio! Tengo amnesia.

[–] isekaihero@ani.social 8 points 4 hours ago

This would be perfect. I hope the GOP impeaches Hegseth, and then the democrats impeach Trump when they take office in January.

Let the heads roll.

[–] abc@suppo.fi 6 points 4 hours ago (2 children)

They still don't understand who's really to blame?

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

They do, but they've built their entire party around worshipping him for the past 10 years. They're stuck with him and have no one to blame but themselves.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

You’re not meant to.

But it couldn’t be dear leader. Couldn’t be our bombastic buffoon in chief. Couldn’t be mango Mussolini. Oh no, it must have been someone else

And since the Supreme Court decided the President is above the law, we’re stuck with passing the buck to the incompetent sycophants who carried it out

[–] Burn_The_Right@lemmy.today 0 points 1 hour ago

Jeffries and Schumer will play along with whatever their GOP besties want to do. Their common goal is just to wipe the slate clean and get the GOP back into leadership.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 15 points 8 hours ago

Air drop him into Iran

[–] moonshadow@sh.itjust.works 12 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

How many scapegoats y'all think absolution is gonna take?

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 8 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

We will accept nothing less than a full Nuremberg 2.0.

[–] moonshadow@sh.itjust.works 0 points 3 hours ago

All that got us last time was Nazis 2.0

[–] Assassassin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 8 hours ago

"The party of self serving backstabbing surely won't back stab me when it serves them"

[–] brownsugga@lemmy.world 13 points 9 hours ago

He should be tried for the war crimes he committed, not just impeached. Can a SecDef be submitted to a military Court Martial?

[–] Bieren@lemmy.today 15 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Knowing democrats. This will be their one. Get it. Celebrate all over the internet. And then just stop going after traitors and pedophiles.

[–] abc@suppo.fi 1 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

The problem with trying to get votes by accusing your competition of being outright criminals is that when you get into power, you need to follow up on that claim. Then it turns out that you were just lying and no investigation actually turns up anything.

And now the people who took those claims seriously expect lots of people go to jail and nobody does, and they think that the system is rigged. But it was just mundane lying.

(I don't know if GOP are actual criminals actually, just extrapolating from how these have gone in the past)

[–] aproposnix@piefed.social 25 points 15 hours ago

thats the thing about Fascists, they will canabilize one another in order to save their own asses. Send him to the Hague.

[–] theedqueen@lemmy.world 29 points 17 hours ago (3 children)

I wanna see them all cananalize themselves

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 5 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

cananalize [emphasis added]

eat each other (nonsexually) starting from the butthole?

[–] Didntdoit71@feddit.online 2 points 5 hours ago

Hell yeah! I'd say "eat the rich," but I'm sure they all taste like utter shit, especially the illegal immigrant people want to become the first trillionaire. If fElon succeeds, it'll be like opening Pandora's box and we may never be able to close it without losing millions of good people. So, let them "cananalize" each other...that way we don't have to taste their tainted flesh.

[–] BestBouclettes@jlai.lu 12 points 16 hours ago

The second Trump croaks, they'll go rabid

[–] bunnybunny@lemmy.zip 10 points 17 hours ago

This, I’m really looking forward to this. They don’t to blame Trump (yet) so they’re going to try to take each other down

[–] BooBees@fedinsfw.app 113 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

Dejavu, it’s like the Iraq war all over again where suddenly there’s not a republican to be found that was in favor of it once their grip on power slips

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 27 points 19 hours ago

Let's reach across the aisle to help that motherfucker get into prison.

[–] daychilde@lemmy.world 38 points 21 hours ago (3 children)

“I think he probably knows he’s dead but would like an exit sufficiently dramatic that it gives him a launching pad to run for POTUS,” one administration official said.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHahahahahahahahaHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHahahahahahaaa... oh... man.... I needed that.

[–] Burn_The_Right@lemmy.today 1 points 1 hour ago

We laughed about Trump too. Conservatives demand a violent, evil leader. They lust for cruelty. They require it. If Pete promises to torture and kill as many as possible, he really will win the conservative vote. That really is what all conservatives are at their core. Pure evil.

[–] D_C@sh.itjust.works 12 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Donvict Drumpf was elected PresiDunce. Twice.
Before that Bush jr was thought of as a dumb dumb, but he got elected. Twice.

Think about that before you write off the stupidity of kegsbreath trying it.

[–] nilloc@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

Bush Jr stole his first election and then 9/11 made people lose their minds enough to actually want him back. It’s not quite the same as the Trump bullshit, which I’m convinced was still largely a racist backlash to Obama mixed with the Democrats running terrible candidates both times Trump won.

Hopefully this election will show that progressive candidates drive turnout, but I’m not keeping my hopes up that the oligarchs won’t find a way around that.

[–] ChonkyOwlbear@lemmy.world 21 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Just hand him over to the ICC and call it a day.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 25 points 19 hours ago

I love this idea specifically because the US would then be acknowledging and ratifying their relationship with the ICC.

[–] ButtermilkBiscuit@feddit.nl 31 points 21 hours ago

No beardos, no weirdos, no job you fake tough guy alcoholic womanizer. Another trump / Fox news fucking disaster for the world. Main accomplishments including killing a bunch of school age girls and fucking up the global economy.

[–] Ariselas@piefed.ca 44 points 23 hours ago (4 children)

Nice, now lets sit back and watch MAGA eat itself for the next couple years

[–] FaceDeer@fedia.io 62 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

No, never just sit back. Offer them forks and knives. Provide appetizers. Invite them over to dinner and then lock them in the cellar with only each other and a collection of machetes and spices.

We can't prosecute him domestically. Best thing to do is arrest him and fly him to The Hague

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 7 points 17 hours ago

Maybe he should go hi-T and stop being trump's bitch.

[–] abbiistabbii@piefed.blahaj.zone 24 points 22 hours ago

Lmfao they don't have the gall to blame The Big Man so they're throwing the Drunken Chud under the Bus.

SecDef? I thought he was SecWar now? Next I suppose we'll be re-renaming the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario?

This place already smells less like a diaper.
