Can I just say, as someone new to any of this you all sound like a bunch of absolute loons. It's like you're arguing over your favorite tarts flavors.

[–] whiteblacula@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago (1 children)

“I walked into a tart shop and condescended to people who discuss tarts”

[–] fuckemiquit@lemmy.zip 5 points 6 days ago

And I'll do it again while kicking my feet and rubbing my belly! (Only love, just the absurdity of it reading without understanding it till I read about the fediverse)

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.social 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Buttertart and anyone who says otherwise is a dumbass and wrong.

[–] the_grass_trainer@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

Ooh, but a Cream Cheese tart is heaven 🤤😋

[–] RedGreenBlue@lemmy.zip 7 points 6 days ago

The choices are confusing. I'll remain where I am until I stumble over a reason to switch.

[–] Fizz@lemmy.nz 4 points 6 days ago

Piefed because the software has a ton of awesome features and the dev is very responsive.

Lemmy has completely stagnated. They raised enough money for 2 full time devs and pretty much nothing has changed in the past 2 years.

[–] hexagonwin@lemmy.today 5 points 6 days ago

lemmy because it has the old.reddit style frontend (mlmym)

[–] farmgineer@nord.pub 3 points 6 days ago

Piefed (though I also generally like Mbin). However, I haven't used lemmy since the old version with autorefresh and such so I'm not sure. I also just use it in the browser with no separate client/frontend.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 4 points 6 days ago

I like piefed because it was actively improving with neat things. when I first came I was on kbin for a similar reason.

[–] fushuan@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 5 days ago

I use summit so either looks the same, and Lemmy is rust while piefed is python so... The faster one.

[–] AskewLord@piefed.social 3 points 6 days ago

Piefed has better features, but lemmy is less ideaological

[–] squirrel@cake.kobel.fyi 41 points 1 week ago

I've engaged in this debate in the past. Even started some threads and caused accidental fires. I'm not doing that anymore. It's unhealthy for the threadiverse. Just pick and use what you like. If you don't like it anymore, switch to something else. If it speaks ActivityPub, it's all good. We need more fediversing, more decentralization and less drama.

I left lemmy to move to piefed after disagreeing with lemmy’s developers moderation practices and finding out a portion of the donations go to keep .ml running.

Lemmy all the way. PieFed is cool in some of its features, but the way Rimu makes heavy-handed decisions without properly getting community input is insulting and reeks of everything I left centralized Web for.

I keep PyLova in sight, but for now, Lemmy serves me well.

[–] mysticpickle@lemmy.ca 15 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I miss pugjesus and all the cool history stuff he posted 😭

[–] Allero@lemmy.today 7 points 6 days ago

Me too, me too

[–] spankysalmon@fedinsfw.app 3 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

I mean, the Lemmy devs are easily just as bad. Just try to have a political discussion on .ml while not being a scum sucking tankie. I would be negative levels of shocked if it turned out they added something like a global shadowban list or other similarly shit moves other fedi devs have made.

[–] Allero@lemmy.today 13 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

For all we know, Lemmy does not have that, though.

It's one thing to spread your views through the developer's instance and ideologically police it (not great, but eh, users can just block .ml), it's another thing to bake your bias into code and make it affect every single instance. Besides, PieFed makes other, non-political controversial changes, too.

[–] spankysalmon@fedinsfw.app 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Oh yes, I didn't mean to defend piefed with that. Just point out how this place isn't exactly heaven vs the hell of Reddit.

[–] Allero@lemmy.today 1 points 5 days ago

This part is very true

I'm still swearing by MBin.

[–] Infrapink@thebrainbin.org 19 points 1 week ago

There are dozens of us! DOZENS!

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 22 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I prefer the funny people living in the Voyager app.

[–] nightwatch_admin@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

I feel seen!

[–] QuadratureSurfer@piefed.social 16 points 1 week ago

PieFed because it has more features and integrates better with Mastodon users.

[–] CameronDev@programming.dev 12 points 1 week ago

I use a mobile app, so it really doesnt matter to me. Lemmy frontend is a bit shit though

[–] Pratai@piefed.ca 11 points 1 week ago

I prefer anyone that doesn’t support the tankie triad.

[–] Pamasich@kbin.earth 10 points 1 week ago

Mbin. Neither Lemmy nor Piefed appeal to me.

Pylova personally, but my client isn't quite there with Piefed support yet, and I can't be bothered changing clients right now.

[–] Chezus9247@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Is still don't have an idea what the difference is. I feel like it sounds too samesies to switch.

[–] rimu@piefed.social 9 points 1 week ago

https://join.piefed.social/features/

A lot of the big differences are in the community moderation and instance admin side of things. If you use a client app that does both Lemmy and PieFed then using your new PieFed account would feel exactly the same. So for the average phone app user there's not much reason to switch.

The admin and mod tools being so much better does mean that PieFed communities and instances have the potential to be run much better, in theory.

I think of Piefed as a Lemmy client. Like in the same way that mIRC and HexChat are IRC clients. Different look, feel and some difference in features but the core is the same.

Lemmy. My instance has alternative UIs linked in the sidebar that allow my feed to look reasonable instead of like a modern social media ui designed for dark patterns

[–] aksdb@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Lemmy. I dislike the tech stacks of piefed and mbin.

[–] kazerniel@piefed.world 4 points 1 week ago (3 children)

I switched from Lemmy to PieFed a few months ago bc I really like the combined comment streams and hiding posts based on keywords (and the HPT-Fruits theme), but I'm eagerly waiting for PyLova to gain more traction, as it seems to address quite a few pain points of PieFed.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

whats pylova got? if I can block by the number of characters in the body of a post I might move over.

[–] kazerniel@piefed.world 1 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

They added a bunch of QoL options and bug/annoyance fixes compared to PieFed and Lemmy, some examples are in the v0.30 and v0.3.2 release posts, but you can see more at https://lemmyverse.link/c/pylova@quokk.au

Not sure if it has that feature you want though, but the developer is very responsive to user requests.
