Campaign mailers urging Ohio voters to support a socialist U.S. Senate candidate over Democratic nominee Sherrod Brown are being underwritten by a newly incorporated PAC with ties to Donald Trump’s MAGA Inc., public filings show.

The mailers are sponsored by Enough Promises Ohio PAC and began arriving in voters’ mailboxes in recent days. They promote independent candidate Greg Levy over Brown with messages such as “Join the Revolution” and “Send a Worker to the Senate.” Levy describes himself as “Socialist running for the U.S. Senate to represent Ohio in 2026” on his X account.

Levy condemned the fliers for falsely impersonating his campaign and engaging in “dirty tricks” designed to mislead voters. He said he is considering legal action.

props for the candidate to denounce the flyers. Jill Stein only shows up 1 month before elections.

Socialism isn't the problem, its the solution.

OP, you have the wrong link.

A lot of voters (based on my own experience, a lot of older voters -- yes I am aware there are many exceptions) are simply afraid of the word "socialism".

There are many good reasons why, not the least of which is it being at the center of a decades-long campaign by the US government to demonize anything that isn't unfettered capitalism.

Until there isn't such a clear divide, this will be exploited. They know that a whole swath of voters who otherwise believe themselves to be progressive will falter at the polls if the S word comes up. It is one of the points of such a psyop.

They know Democrat infighting is the only chance they have

And the leftists will fall for it every time.

Add key words like:

"Genocide"

"Single payer health care"

"Trans rights"

Say Dixon doesn't support any of those and leftists will either a) not vote or b) vote for the fake socialist.

It's Jill Stein all over again.

Putting 'join the revolution' on the pamphlet demonstrates that the far-right operatives pushing it think that left-wing voters must inherently be marxists.

Sounds about right. The cons are sowing lots of "Democrats in disarray" narratives, too.

It's completely brainless to throw away your vote, most especially at this time. But you just know people will do it.

Levy condemned the fliers for falsely impersonating his campaign and engaging in “dirty tricks” designed to mislead voters. He said he is considering legal action.

“This is a highly undemocratic practice and does a disservice to voters in Ohio and throughout the country,” he wrote on X.

According to Federal Election Commission filings, Enough Promises Ohio was founded Sept. 29. It has not yet had to disclose its contributors, but additional federal filings lay out a trail of associations linked to Republicans.

From this foundation, we will make the essentials of life constitutional rights for every person in Ohio and across America. This means enacting a national rent cap so no one pays more than 20% of their income on housing, and banning evictions. It means establishing a universal, single-payer healthcare system, free at the point of use. It means canceling all student debt and making public education, from pre-K through college and trade school, completely free. To immediately combat the cost-of-living crisis, we will implement an across-the-board price freeze on essential goods. We will repeal Trump’s so-called “Big Beautiful” tax cuts for the rich.

This new vision is critical for Ohio, a state hard-hit by decades of deindustrialization enabled by the capitalist greed of both Democrat and Republican parties. We will rebuild our communities through a socialist industrial policy that puts working families first and corporate profits last. This will put Ohio’s proud union labor back to work at a living wage, manufacturing the renewable energy systems, transit and housing materials needed to slash emissions and rebuild America. Ohio workers will be integral in powering our push for 20 million union jobs nationwide, restoring manufacturing to its historic peak.

The rapid rise of Artificial Intelligence, which could displace a third of workers by 2030, should not mean layoffs and exploitation. Under public ownership and democratic control, technological progress can be harnessed to shorten the workweek and improve our lives, finally creating an economy that works for the many, not the few.

We are told we live in a democracy, but in Ohio, our lives are dictated in Wall Street boardrooms. The truth is that billionaires and democracy cannot coexist. Our system isn't broken; it's working for the rich exactly as intended. Despite the theatrics, both Republicans and Democrats serve their true constituents: the billionaire class. The proof is everywhere: in the lobbyists who write our laws, the unelected and unrecallable Supreme Court that tramples our rights, the bankers at the Federal Reserve who control our economy, and the millionaires club that is the U.S. Congress.

This isn't a government of the people; it is a dictatorship of the rich. Our aim is the total reorganization of power into the hands of the working class. We will outlaw corporate lobbying and political donations, prosecute the powerful for their crimes, and set the salary of Congress to the minimum worker's wage to ensure they live in the world they create for us. We will move to abolish the anti-democratic Senate and the illegitimate Supreme Court, transferring their powers to more democratic and accountable bodies. OK lots of promises. Who is this guy? What is his plan to achieve these promises? Is he really a socialist?

Levy is a joke anyway but I'm honestly not sure who they think theyre appealing to here.

There are a very, very small amount of people here who would like that language. Much less we're inundated with that garbage daily from many candidates.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Why is he a joke? Genuine question, I'm not from Ohio.

[–] ZombieZikeri@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Ohioan here who got the Join the Revolution mailer.

Not certain on TimBuck2theMoon's meaning on "joke', but Ohio does first past the post voting, which enforces a 2 party system. As long as we have first past the post voting, any 3rd party candidate is a joke candidate.

Levy doesn't really have a chance, but can pull votes away from Brown (Dem candidate).

Personally, I'd rather vote for a socialist, but that's only slightly better than not voting and the Republicans being in power is too great a threat to ignore.

The time to vote socialist is during the primaries to try to replace moderates with actual left leaning candidates. Outside of primary season, we can critize and pressure the Dems to actually do something productive, but wasting votes in battleground states just enables the fascists to win and they won't be pressured from the left.
