Watch, next up the Pedo-in-Chief will state that AI (not calling it the stupid ass term dickless made up) needs to be considered people.

You know, like how businesses are considered people now. You see where this is going...

[–] CrimeIsLegalNow@ani.social 1 points 55 minutes ago

Because it's both cringe and inferior to the actually correct and already popularized term, Virtual Intelligence.

[–] Nouvellalia@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

The agreements between OpenAI and Microsoft hinge on "super intelligence" specifically. In exchange for billions in early investment, OAI has to share it's model tech with MS until ASI is developed.

I wouldn't be surprised if all this is just a power play, with OAI bribing trump to get off the hook.

[–] leftzero@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

Look at it from Trump's perspective, though. Even a simple markov chain like eliza is super intelligence compared to what's going on in his brain...

(No, but seriously, this whole SI thing is really just a scam by his handlers to resell Slovenian domains at an inflated price.)

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 19 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

“Stolen intelligence”

Took everything from everyone without their permission and said “I made this!”

[–] stinkytofuisgood@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Wanna know the new term I made?

Stolen intelligence.

Pretty good, right?

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Now we both pay each other the same huge sum of money and tell everyone about all the revenue and investment we have done.

[–] stinkytofuisgood@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

Hey, I have an idea...

Reality really is more absurd than fiction.

[–] moldy_rice@piefed.keyboardvagabond.com 6 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Maybe we could call it "Stupid Intelligence"?

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 hours ago

If the LLM was a coworker, they'd be fired for incompetence.

[–] kmartburrito@lemmy.world 60 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Trump is an absolute moron. No one should listen to anything he says, other than his admissions of crimes committed.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

And most especially of something of a technical matter. And no, his "genes" don't fucking matter, either, LOL. No one gives a flying fuck who his uncle was.

[–] deeprlyeh@lemmus.org 40 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It’s not even called AI. Im certainly not calling in SI.

[–] becausechemistry@piefed.social 26 points 1 day ago (7 children)

I refer to them as either “the LLM” or “the robot” at work and boy howdy the AI bros do not like it

[–] nilloc@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

I call them chatbots or fancy autocomplete. LLM maybe for the better coding agents, but that’s still being generous. Slopbots for the music, website, and image generators.

[–] CannonFodder@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

I refer to them as G.P. This is a somewhat inside joke for those who were in Ontario and watched Tales of the Riverbank on TVO (aka Hammy Hamster) in the 1960's and 70's. Hammy's friend G.P. was a guinea pig. They'd get up to all sorts of adventures. It wasn't a cartoon, but filming of real animals in sets with models and with voice dubbing, and a narrator. They obviously put food down where they wanted the animals to go, and I'm pretty sure they glued the paws to steering wheels and the like sometimes. There was also Martha Mouse, who was clearly a white rat. One time the animals ... oh, but that's another story. (That's how the episodes ended and it was fucking annoying).

I was starting to think it should be called SI, but short for Simulated Intelligence. Its a good description of these tools, which look intelligent but are not truely intelligent.

Then Trump came out with his bullshit.

[–] Johnmannesca@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

Freedom Fries moment

[–] salarua@sopuli.xyz 31 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I know this isn't the point of the article, but honestly we shouldn't be using the term "AI" either. By implying that ChatGPT et al are intelligent, even if that's not our intention, we feed into the hype. I found this article proposing alternative, more accurate terms: https://buttondown.com/maiht3k/archive/how-to-talk-about-ai-without-adding-to-the/

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Good stuff

artificial intelligence → probabilistic automation

hybrid intelligence → augmented human intelligence

image recognition → image labeling

speech recognition → automatic transcription

the model shows bias → the model reflects bias

model mistakes → model errors

chatbots are good at … → chatbots are good for …

hallucination → undesirable output

goal → success condition

[–] PancakesCantKillMe@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

The first thing I broach on the topic is that there is no intelligence. It is a language model that uses an algorithm to determine speech and conversation. It is limited to whatever it has scraped from humanity and offers nothing further. Each different LLM has its own predilections and tendencies. Some better than others, but all of it is unintelligent and will confidently tell you a wrong answer. Furthermore, it devolves into hallucinations very quickly. What have I missed or what should I add?

Edit: Article correctly states LLMs should not be anthropomorphized and "hallucination" lends to that. But I feel "undesirable outputs" is too soft even though it does strip the humanity from the LLM.

[–] obvs@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I think it might make sense to call it "Augmentive Intelligence", because it is not intelligence on its own. It has major issues when it comes to reasoning on its own, but for someone who actually is intelligent, it can add to that person's ability to accomplish things. So it augments that person's intelligence, instead of being an intelligence on its own.

[–] anon_8675309@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

Again: this is a loyalty test to see who all is loyal to Trump.

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 15 points 1 day ago

Why No One Should Use Trump's Term

Because it's what Trump wants and he made it up on a whim. The fact that people are even entertaining the idea enough to write articles about it is asinine.

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 5 points 1 day ago

Call it special intelligence and imply it is mentally deficient.

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's just marketingspeak from a moron who doesn't understand the tech, or it's capabilities.

[–] Carmakazi@piefed.social 22 points 1 day ago (3 children)

My understanding is that it's a willful scam to sell .si domains. Of course that doesn't mean he came up with it or that he isn't a moron who doesn't understand.

He doesn't have to be smart to own significant blocks of them. Somebody just has to whisper to him that there's a lot of money to be made.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 4 points 1 day ago

If lots of people, including powerful people, change what they call something because he told them to, that's just feeding his ego. That's all he's in for at this point. At least this is a grift to also make money off people, I didn't see any way to profit from changing Lake Ontario's name, except maybe as a distraction in the media, and again, his ego.

[–] YurkshireLad@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago

This makes the most sense. No doubt one of his kids came up with the grift, probably Baron.

[–] dylanmorgan@slrpnk.net 7 points 1 day ago

Because literally every time he says “actually you should call it [x]” it’s the dumbest thing said that day, only surpassed by other stupid shit he might say.

[–] Pratai@piefed.ca 4 points 1 day ago

His little robot worshippers will.

[–] ThanksObama@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And here I am still calling A1.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That's insulting to steak sauce.

[–] Raiderkev@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

I mean, the steak sauce is insulting to steak. Pretty sure it's actually the perfect name.

[–] kaotic@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

During his announcement about this the phrase “Artificial makes it sound fake.” I’m sitting at home thinking “thats because it is fake!”

[–] Bustedknuckles@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I saw a suggestion I'd like to second: just call it "Trump intelligence"

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Please no. LLMs can usually string together coherent sentences and have a much tighter grasp of reality

[–] vegeta@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago
[–] Itdidnttrickledown@lemmy.world 2 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago)

AI is no intelligence None what so ever. You don't really belive these agents that are doing all this 'hacking' are doing it without human input? Do you? If you do I got a bridge in Brooklyn for sale.

[–] Mantzy81@aussie.zone 8 points 1 day ago

It would seem like "super intelligence" when you're as mentally incapacitated as Trump or MAGA. So would a stale quiche, but I digress.

[–] Asafum@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I swear this fucking buffoon should have just been an explorer or something with how much he just loves naming shit

[–] AbouBenAdhem@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

Most explorers named things that already had names, too.

[–] humanspiral@lemmy.ca 1 points 22 hours ago

The term “super intelligence” paints a halo around a highly fallible technology. The fantasy narrative that elites have built around AI has, at bottom, served a financial end.

Just as we are conditioned to accept our teachers/professors as having superior intelligence to respect and obey, and something to seek out in what to read/listen to, and (speaking to my narcisim) possibly even deserves to be listened to. Higher intelligence can be used to sell lies or teach truth. Only one of these pays well.

Super conveys a deserved authoritarian truth. Superior. Fraudster in chief, blantantly lying the most of any public figure every day, is not the most trustworthy source to provide a halo for fraudster bond villains who are more guarded/frank about fallibility risks.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Yes. Now we need people with more money and more of a platform to say this.

[–] Assassassin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 day ago

Cnet is now classified as a terrorist organization
