PS: it would be terrific if this community had an attribution requirement.
Say things that aren't your words.

I'm only the co-mod (not the founder here), but if I understand correctly, you'd like to see more than just a name credit, but some kind of supporting link for each quote?
I'll go ahead and tag @mrnobody@quokk.au right now so they can read your comment above, and now here are my immediate thoughts:
I think that makes perfect sense for long-worded, weighty quotes like this. The more it's made in to an absolute requirement though, the more it seems chore-ish, if that makes sense. OTOH, I've personally made a couple wrong attributions on my end, and that's kind of embarrassing, since I believe in accuracy, facts & reality.
OTOH again!, there's simply the fascinating / bewildering nature of the internet, in which if you typically want to find the best answer, you pipe up with something incorrect so that people can swiftly rush in and correct you. π I must confess I kind of like that, actually, as it usually sparks discussion and further interest in the topic. Or something like that.
Personally I wouldnβt want it as a rule. Itβs hard enough to get people to contribute and adding additional barriers of entry to that seems counterproductive, but I would be in favour of it being highly encouraged for people to share sources.
I guess a big question is-- did Hubert Humphrey stick to this message in 1968? Was the message outdated by then?
The other factor of course is that Nixon likely rode a wave of national resentment over the earlier progressivism of the Sixties. At that point the not-really-GOP'ers likely found their winning formula... the same one that they've been riding in to the ground, ever since.
Stand up for your principles! Explain them quietly, over and over again. In political discussions, lead by asking questions!
Damn... I didn't read the title until after getting most of the way though
Aside from the new deal and fair deal dating it, you'd think it was written this week π
What is there to apologise about the new deal?
It's all Socialist/ Commie stuff like Social Security, which conservatives hate. They love it when people get crushed by the machine they worked so hard to build.
"Conservatives" would never stop screeching about it.
Taxes to pay for it. Not a deal breaker to me, or obviously most people that voted for it. But a certain vocal minority with the deepest of pockets had a real problem with it.
Timeless wisdom.
It is really simple to put into effect - as long as you know who your actual constituents are.
