These comments are blowing my mind. Are people just pretending that this isn’t a humorous post?

No, Americans do not eat 90 lbs of cheese per day. She was making a joke.

[–] sunbytes@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

It's technically art supplies

"Modelling dairy"

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 34 points 1 day ago (1 children)

"Jean-Luc Fromage". That guy would know about cheese, for sure.

I know what that guy's name means thanks to Dexter's Laboratory.

[–] kestrel7_7@lemmy.world 34 points 2 days ago (2 children)

This episode is a master class in trolling French speakers decades down the line (it should be "omelette au fromage"/omelet with cheese. "Omelette du fromage" means omelet of cheese)

[–] BigBenis@lemmy.world 37 points 2 days ago (1 children)

omlet of cheese

He said what he said.

[–] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago

I too stand behind this comment.

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 10 points 2 days ago

It's one of like three episodes that I can actually really recall with any accuracy.

Did you eat your 90 lbs of cheese today? Gotta do your patriotic duty.

[–] bhamlin@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Eat a verification Babybel

[–] musubibreakfast@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

I shoved a couple of blocks down my throat during the national anthem. For lunch I microwaved a couple of blocks and added them to my coffee. My remaining blocks I'll probably have in a smoothie.

This is just a statistical error. The average American eats 0 pounds of cheese per day. Cheese Georg, who eats thirty billion eight hundred thirty-four million pounds per day, is an outlier and should not have been counted.

you've clearly never been to America. My friend Graham eats at least 100 lbs a day

[–] exasperation@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 2 days ago (2 children)

How many kilo grahams is that?

Had to look it up, about 40 lbs per year per person https://www.ers.usda.gov/data-products/chart-gallery/113732

90 lbs a day.

I call bullshit.

[–] Exatron@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's an average. That means there's at least one American out there eating more, possibly far more, than 90 lbs of cheese a day.

[–] finalarbiter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Fromage georg out here eating 10,000 lbs of cheese a day, skewing the average

[–] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Man I wish I could afford to have 90lbs a cheese of day.

I'd finally experience happiness, both by having immense amounts of cheese, and from dying from eating immense amounts of cheese.

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 36 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Every ...day? I'm seriously slacking on my cheese intake!

[–] FilthyShrooms@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago

Dont worry, I'm covering your slack

Is this a photo where the cheese wears camouflage or something? I'm trying really hard.

It's very hard to say this, it really pains me, but... Here it goes... I agree with the French guy.

(I'm Dutch)

It's Semtex.
They found it during a raid.

Born and brewed in Wisconsin and a) I see a lot of cheese and b) not even we eat 90 pounds a day.

80, tops.

[–] 9point6@lemmy.world 31 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Jean-Luc Fromage is a fantastic name for a parody account

I hope this isn't a planetary alignment situation

You know what? Unpopular opinion time.

Cheddar is a god-tier cheese and puts European cheese to shame.

It can be made sharp or mild, hard or creamy, white or yellow,. It easily melts in a perfect way. It keeps incredibly well. Pairs well with almost everything. It can be improved by aging or smoking (and holy shit if you have not tried a good smoked cheddar you are missing out on life).

You can take any fancy, high-end cheese and there is some variant of cheddar that can go toe-to-toe with it.

The only reason it's snubbed as common and low-quality is because it's cheap and used so ubiquitously. But the reason for that is because, again, cheddar is a god-tier cheese.

And yes, I know cheddar was first created in England, but the US is responsible for industrializing and popularizing it.

[–] Ozymandias88@feddit.uk 25 points 1 day ago

Dude, cheddar cheese was popularised by Henry II. The U.S. didn't even exist then

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Monterey Jack ain't nothin' to scoff at either

That industrial polymeriszed milk sold in the US we see over here in England as "American Cheese" is barely considered food stuff let alone cheddar.

Propper cheddar from England that's actually made for human consumption (not the cheap stuff or even the big brands sold here) will win over industrialised cheese in a one-on-one taste test hands down every single time.

Propper cheddar is on the same tier as other European cheeses and are chosen as the centre piece of a meal course because of the distinct flavours and textures.

However, the industrial "cheese" the US makes is perfect as an ingredient or topping in US fast food cuisine; it adds a cheese flavour and texture without trying to compete with the other flavours.

Hence why cheese singles or the European alternative of a thin slice of Edam are perfect for steam-melting on top of a burger.

I am fully willing to change my stance on this but I'll need convincing, if I find myself in the US where should I look for the best cheeses from the different varieties of available in the US?

Not sure this should be on a shitpost sub. If I’m eating that much cheese a day, I’m not doing anything close to shitting for a good few weeks
