Being stuffed in a room with 20 others to sit still for 6 - 12 hours is just inhumane.
These days you’re lucky if you have less than 30 in your class. The classrooms are still designed for 20, though
There's periodic breaks where the kids who reached puberty first are allowed to hunt you for sport.
I don't think it is video games, but you can probably imagine how adults who
- aren't actually engaging in dialogue with school pupils
- nor have time to implement or engage in accurate training on how to improve the social skills of their students, what their relationship with video games is, why mental health is down (thanks USA government for overworking the public schools)
... you can imagine how those adults do not make the connection that school is incredibly less social, organised and fulfilling than it used to be. Schools are now all focused on going in, studying, sitting tests, going home - they used to be full of activities to build comradery and p r a c t i c a l skills.
The adults working in education instead decide "kids like video games but don't like school, I didn't have video games when I was at school, so it must be a question of videogames raising their dopamine levels so much that everything in school seems SHIT!"
But as I've already said, they ignore the fact that school was literally better back then
every currently working teacher i know at least lived through the arcade era (i'm tired that came out weird. you know what i mean). the ones that graduated before 1972 are mostly retired and dead.
They may have lived through the arcade era.
But how many of those have played there and havent become desinterested in games?
And how many transformed into video game haters (just like the radicalization of democratic left-leaning olks into right/far-right leaning for all the wrong reasons)
Even today most I know (of >40 y/o adults) arent even interested in games or at least keep the interest under locks.
I'd assume at most <25% of teachers have any interest in video games.
And of those 25% maybe only 10% have any interest in actual modern games and not just digital board games and casual games.
I'd compare it to Anime.
Maybe a 2:1 or 3:1 distribution (Games : Anime)

I thought that too but In education the highest leadership is the most tenure and they completely shape the views of the people below them, it continues for the next "generation" of teachers, and them again and again ad infinitum

I think you're being too harsh on educators. The vast majority of educators I encountered went into the field to support children to create opportunities for them to thrive and grow.
It is a self-sacrificing profession that requires an unbelievable amount of commitment, and has uncountable factors working against it.
It is attacked by politicians, it is attacked by the general public, who feel they are experts on the profession because they went to school... It is attacked at the state level, and at the district level.
Teachers are fighting against turning kids into data points for college and career readiness, which view kids as cogs in the economic wheel, and not humans that have a civic duty to grow into their fullest selves.
You can hate on education all you like, but educators are the ones on the ground trying their best to make it something worthwhile.
There are just a lot of factors that are in play that prevent teachers from being able to teach and be teachers first and foremost.
I'm being nice to them, I'm saying that the meme is being too harsh on them. In essence I was trying to say that they're too overworked for this shit and if they weren't, they could come to the correct conclusions about why pupils have poor mental health, perhaps laying off the criticism of videogames a bit.
So Video games it is!

PS. School was terrible back in the day too, at least people don't dare to beat people up and assault as much nowadays as they'd get filmed.
