I guess I’ll be avoiding the sidewalks in the near future. Why is it that we seem to be focused on putting the most experimental technology in the most commonly operated, but most dangerous utility?
Clearly, this tech hasn’t been proven and until I see a robot vacuum that doesn’t try to pick up dog shit, I don’t expect an autonomous car to keep me alive. How can a car hope to keep you alive when it has no concept of self-preservation?
They use examples like dishwashers, flush toilets, refrigerators, and internet, but none of those things put others in danger when they fail.
As a bonus, I like how the solution to the trolley problem with autonomous driving is to ignore it and pretend like it doesn’t exist. “They were in the driver’s seat so let the courts figure it out.” No responsibility on the people who sold you a service that’s intended to keep you alive.
There’s just a swath of unsolved problems in this field that they are ignoring all the solutions for to push out more product. If you’re not fit to drive, don’t get behind the wheel. Simple as.
