This is something a strong nation that is secure in its moral identity would do

[–] anarchy79@lemmy.world 8 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

They are a free nation. Free to deport or murder anyone they want to.

[–] Rat_in_a_hat@lemmy.ca 6 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

The only democracy in the middle east apparently!

[–] Gates9@sh.itjust.works 3 points 18 hours ago

*Democracy with Israeli characteristics

[–] KC_Royalz@lemmy.world 3 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

[–] Gates9@sh.itjust.works 6 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

I just want to point out how to many people, the crimes against the Palestinians aren't legitimate until the story is told by an Israeli. The way Israeli voices are viewed as credible while Palestinian voices are suspicious is one of the most pervasive consequences of the colonial project.

I don't mean to criticize these filmmakers for their identities or imply their project is bad. I'm saying that all of the coverage of this leans heavily on their identities as a mark and sign of authenticity and repute. Compare to the Arab journalists who literally died to bring you this same story.

[–] andrewrgross@slrpnk.net 8 points 15 hours ago

Yeah: the filmmakers themselves have said this repeatedly as well.

The Israeli Supreme Court ruled in 2022 that the government can revoke an Israeli person’s nationality if they fail to show “loyalty,” including through acts that are found to be treasonous. The interior minister must submit a revocation request to the justice minister and judges must also validate the revocation.

Just apartheid state things.

[–] 0x0@infosec.pub 1 points 3 hours ago

Where would they send them, gaza?

[–] anarchy79@lemmy.world 3 points 18 hours ago

Pledging allegiance to the flag springs to mind, from two historical examples.

Religious right to the land of Palestine until the Israeli government doesn't consider you Jew enough

[–] A_norny_mousse@piefed.zip 32 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Must be painful when Israeli Jews* point out and unveil the atrocities perpetrated by Israel.

Of course they call it treason.

Can't wait to see the film. Classic Streisand effect!

* going by their names

PS: I thought NAZA is a portmanteau of Nazi and Gaza, created by the film makers. Israeli intelligence itself coming up with that name is a self-own imo.

[–] daychilde@lemmy.world 3 points 22 hours ago

PS

Yes, the name is very unfortunately hilarious. You know 75% of the people seeing the term (like me before I understood what it actually meant) will associated it with "nazi", especially considering the current state of Israeli politics. It's almost too on the nose.

[–] Cheese_man@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Isn't Israel supposed to be a bastion of freedom and democracy in the Middle East?

[–] panthera_@lemmy.today 2 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

Democrats should propose that if the NAZA filmmakers' citizenships are revoked, they would be permitted to come to the US.

[–] andrewrgross@slrpnk.net 5 points 15 hours ago

With all due respect, Democrats shouldn't be offering safe harbor to exiled dissidents: they should be threatening to sanction Israel if it exiles dissidents.

They should be a doing a lot of other things too, but we need to be much clearer with our demands. These people are Israeli, and deserve protection in their own country. I don't think they want to leave, I think they want their country to change.

[–] ryannathans@aussie.zone 0 points 15 hours ago

AIPAC publicly backs 152 democrats so probably won't happen

[–] andrewrgross@slrpnk.net 17 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I choose to believe that 10 years from now, Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor will be leaders of a free Israel-Palestine, and the people who called for their denaturalization will be dead or living out life sentences for perpetrating atrocities.

I hope Abraham and Szor are careful, though. That future does assume that they survive long enough to reach it.

Either way, there can be no doubt that history will view their journalism and activism with great admiration.

[–] daychilde@lemmy.world 5 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

Reminder of the irony of the term:

NAZA is a military acronym derived from the Hebrew term nezek agavi,[4] and is used by the Israeli Defense Force to indicate the number of civilians expected to be killed in an airstrike as collateral damage, also known as Non-combatant casualty value

Ironic that the Israeli government uses a term that many people will confuse with "NAZI".

[–] Rubanski@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Could also be a codename for Wernher von Braun

[–] daychilde@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

"That's not my department!"

;-)

Kojima strikes again

[–] BigBoyShuanzee@aussie.zone 9 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Israel are the Nazis of the 2020s I hate you Israel as much as I hate Nazi Germany and almost as much as I hate child predators...

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 5 points 20 hours ago

I mean, the IDF are essentially child predators at this point so...

[–] Rat_in_a_hat@lemmy.ca 2 points 18 hours ago

Just the 2020s? You should hear some interviews with early IDF members when they were ethnically cleansing Palestine in the 40s and 50s.

These old farts on camera just chuckling to themselves as they retell gunning down civilians that were on their knees.

[–] Doorbook@lemmy.world 4 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

The entire co concept of Zionist state is based on genocide. Not sure what these people expect when they realize this system for what it is. Every human coming from another country should pack their stuff and leave before it is too late.

[–] anarchy79@lemmy.world 1 points 18 hours ago

They literally want to go Old Testament on people, and we should kind of be above that by now.

[–] Tolc@lemmy.world 1 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

so NAZA filmmakers are israelis? lol

[–] anarchy79@lemmy.world 3 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

There are a lot of progressive Israelis that are fully on board with what us in the West are saying about the genocide.

You don't get to hear them much but there is definitely resistance. Thank god.

[–] Tolc@lemmy.world -2 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

if they were against israel, they wouldnt be in israel and be its citizens. Hope this helps

[–] TrippaSnippa@aussie.zone 0 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

if they were against America, they wouldn't be in America and be its citizens. Hope this helps
