PC gaming sure ain't cheap
Never was, but considering I can do significantly more with it, including 240fps gaming, getting free games for my library, and modding (to say nothing of general computing), it's still a great value if you don't constantly upgrade.
That said, the buy-in hurdle is getting awfully tall...
It is unattainable to move now to high end pc gaming though
Price of a few individual components of a motherboard: goes up 50%
Price of the entire motherboard: triples
... price of motherboard PCBs alone has increased by between 15% and 50%. Wi-Fi modules are said to have gone up between 10% and 20%, while capacitor prices have also gone up approximately 50% ...
... these price increases are likely caused by material shortages resulting from the Strait of Hormuz crisis and the ongoing Iran war ...

Much more likely due to market collapse than component prices, that's an excuse. Still got mostly the same costs but no-ones buying thanks to SamA's market cornering and NVIDIA only caring about the datacentre? You're going to have to jack up prices to stay afloat, and only the rich or desperate will buy.
I think it’s going to be a combination of factors - I remember there being some news a few years ago about a fresh water shortage in Taiwan straining PCB production.
There’s definitely going to be some shift in IC component production too, to supplement the seemingly bottomless demand from data centres.
Coupled with the fact that yes - customer demand is down quarter-on-quarter; they will need to lift pricing to make up for the shortfall in Gross Profits, in order to cover their fixed Operating Costs.
So it’s literally a case of x + y = industry is pretty fucked.
I wouldn’t be surprised if a few of the legacy brands, who haven’t already expanded/pivoted to peripherals and other markets will go out of business or be bought-out by private capital or competitors before the dust settles post-AI market crash.
