Is it just not high in the priority list?

Linux is so full-featured at this point and music is such a huge part of culture that I'm always surprised when asked to find that there's no music-making software available.

Or have I just not found the Linux equivalent yet that everybody else knows about?

I’ve used Ardour in the past. Supports VSTs, audio and MIDI tracks. It’s not as simple as Garage Band - it feels a bit more like Logic Pro. But just in case you don’t know it yet. https://ardour.org/

I don’t know how it compares to Bitwig.

Cool, never heard of it.

Whoa okay yea that looks very interesting. Thanks!

Is the license one time or an ongoing subscription? it's not free, right?

It is pay, one time only. I think they have a 30 day trial or something like that with a few tiers to choose from to buy
