I do NOT understand the hype.
The last one was pretty good but nothing groundbreaking.
Why are people so sure this one is the second coming of Vice City?

As depressing as it is to admit, for a lot of people gta online has become their third place.
it was groundbreaking at launch. the switch-character thing was pretty awesome
Why are people so sure this one is the second coming of Vice City?
because it's set in Vice City? /s
What I do NOT understand is whenever people resort to propaganda like this, to try sabotage public perception of an (actually evil) person or company. Yes we know Rockstar is a bunch of greedy bastards, but their games are "nothing groundbreaking", really? GTA V and Red Dead are listed as two of the most successful games ever made behind only Minecraft.
This is like when an actor gets involved in some sex scandal and everyone suddenly thinks their work is mediocre. Can we really not separate an evil person or company from their work?
Successful and groundbreaking are not necessarily the same thing
I'm sorry. Propaganda?
Yeah red dead was amazing. But they're making a different game to that at the moment. GTA is usually (in comparison) a bit light on the stories/immersion in favour of goofy stuff and explosions.
Also i don't know about specific evil stuff from rockstar. I just thought they were the usual kind of corpo jerks (union busting etc). Not sure where that particular protest you made is aimed.
Also "successful" is not really about the players. It's great if you're a shareholder though. They do love whoever invented the shark cards.
Don’t kid yourself, it was amazing. New one will be amazing.
To the new players, maybe. But not for you. You now have the curse of an Elder Scrolls player - you'll watch each installment become more and more popular, while the actual gameplay gets worse and worse.
Assassin's Creed also.
GTASA to IV was insane. V released on the 360 the same as 4. The hardware was very limiting. Single player wise, I am ready to be disappointed by VI after I 🏴☠️ it
I feel like at this point it's been so over hyped for so long it can only disappoint
I'll be doing my part
"God, please let Chip Skylark play at my birthday party..."
John Rockstar has alot to answer for
Or just come out already so people can stop obsessing over it
The old Rockstar is dead. Ppl r gonna preorder GTA anyways and defend the company when they get a broken/unfinished product on day one, claiming it can be fixed in the future with updates. Look at cyberpunk 2077 and no mans land.
Lol, I'm sorry... NO MANS SKY?!
That game did so much work it's ridiculous. It's like, the worst example you could have possibly brought up.
Did you do it on purpose? Is this rage bait?
Yeah a game with 10 years of free updates and no microtransactions, Rockstar would never.
no mans sky still sucks. people saying its better now just feels like cope. like sure its better but that doesnt make it good.
It's a good thing opinions are subjective, and individual to the person. Fwiw, my opinion differs completely. I really enjoyed it on launch, but left it after I'd built a ship, seen a few planets and completed the ten part Atlas storyline. Of course that was 100% of the features on launch. The game's features are colossal now
It's as broad as an ocean, but as deep as a puddle. I'm glad people enjoy it, but I couldn't. The planets aren't interesting, because you know there can't be anything unique anywhere with the proc gen (there are some more rare planet types, but even those aren't very interesting). This basically means the big selling point of the game, the exploration, isn't worth doing. The crafting and base building are just a grind. Flying is really boring with too many guardrails. An interesting game requires the ability to make mistakes and fail, in my opinion, and they're scared to let that happen.
Sadly true. I jump in every few years. Make a new character, do the run, do the new stuff, do the current season. It’s all still the same just with more.
CP2077 on the other hand did it. I never had an issue at launch like the loud groups did. But I appreciate the work, the qol updates, and the expansion. They did turn that game around … but again, I didn’t see the initial problems anyways …
I think flop is impossible, but shitshow and disappointment? Now that seems pretty likely.

I am done with giant open world games. Data point of one but my current preference is shorter, much more narrowly scoped games.
How could you not enjoy running across the map for 20 min for a 2 min fetch quest and then going back another 20 min to another part of the map to speak to the person who gives you the reward? Don't you like commuting?
Hey, fuck you. Sometimes just commuting is a nice change of pace from my favorite game, Desert Bus.
My current preference is games that have a requirement like "graphics card (optional)"
It'll be good, but it won't be as good as its hyped up to be, because even a game coded by an army of time-travelling future-messiahs from every conceivable dimension couldn't be as good as the hype suggests.
What you can look forward to is every single content creator even remotely related to digital entertainment talking about how its the best/worst thing ever, dissecting every single plotpoint, getting enraged/excited over every minor update, endless discussions over the price of the mtx that will generate more revenue than a mid-sized countries GDP.
Even if the game sucks by every objective metric, children and casuals will still throw money at it every chance it gets. The game has to be amazing for me to have any hope.
I honestly hope somebody leaks it 2 weeks early for free and rockstar just lose a bunch of stock money.
There is this YouTuber that is like crazy for the game, always talking about it, saying that's going to be the best game of the world, that nothing could go bad, that Rockstar is like some kind of elves making ancient jewelry. I just want to see his completely breakdown if the game is shit.
The online mode might flop, since part of the success of 5's online mode was that it was so generous and buggy at the start that the initial waves of online players became trillionaires in-game. This allowed subsequent waves to be preyed upon by Rockstar but also boosted by the old timers.
