What is global news?

Something that happened or was uncovered recently anywhere in the world. It doesn't have to have global implications. Just has to be informative in some way.

Post guidelines

Title formatPost title should mirror the news source title. If you don't like the title of article, look for an alternative source instead of editorializing it.
URL formatPost URL should be the original link to the article (even if paywalled) and archived copies left in the body. It allows avoiding duplicate posts when cross-posting.
[Opinion] prefixOpinion (op-ed) articles must use [Opinion] prefix before the title. Opinion articles refer to articles that their publisher doesn't explictly endorse.
Country prefixCountry prefix can be added to the title with a separator (|, :, etc.) if the news is from a local publisher who doesn't clearly mention the country.

Lol! He just keeps making everything more expensive. Surely his base is starting to figure that out by now?

Could somebody please stop J’Biden

'I can't believe Biden did this to us!'

[–] Statick@feddit.online 5 points 1 week ago

A friends mother blames Biden for losing her SNAP benefits earlier this year.

We're doomed.

Too much credit. It's like waiting for a monkey with a typewriter to come up with the next great novel.

all generic drugs brought into the US will continue to have a tariff of 0% for two years starting from August 1, after which the tariff rate will be raised to 100% for one year and to 200% thereafter

I doubt this will survive two years and actually go into effect. I'm honesty surprised it's not another 'effective immediately' late night truthsocial ramble - rewritten into an executive order.

Can I get off this ride? I'm fucking exhausted. Just like, gimme a week. One fucking week of him not doing something cartoonishly evil.

[–] RamenJunkie@midwest.social 3 points 1 week ago

The stupid part here is even with a 1000% tariff, the generics are probably cheaper than US made drugs.

[–] TheRealKuni@piefed.social 25 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Wow so I guess they want my dog’s cough to come back full force.

My dog requires a fluticasone inhaler for his cough. Our vet recommended we order the inhalers from CanadaPharmacy, and the specific ones we got actually shipped from New Zealand. Cost about a third of what it would here without insurance.

(So even with 100% tariffs, still cheaper to import. But holy shit fuck DJT.)

[–] CorrectAlias@piefed.blahaj.zone 12 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Yeah, my cat also needs the same inhalers, which I get overseas from Vanuatu. I order three at once which would be nearly $700(!) in the US. Instead, I pay $150. I wonder which country I'd buy them from even with 100% tariffs?

Diaper Don doesn't even know how expensive drugs are for the average person in the US.

The tariff, which aims to bolster US pharmaceutical production,

By killing Americans, don't forget that part. That said on one hand, if the US left and center-left get off their asses it should be gone by January 2029. But on the other hand, I have exactly zero faith that the US left and center-left will get off their asses.

By killing Americans, don't forget that part

The more citizens one helps die of natural causes, the less citizens will be live-streamed genocided.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 1 points 1 week ago

the other reply you got to this is why I call myself a centerist. ugh.

[–] IchNichtenLichten@lemmy.wtf 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That's an over-simplistic take. The left in the US has no real power and has to fight both the Dems and the Republicans that both serve the same masters. The only difference between them is that one isn't overtly evil.

Learned helplessness/weaponized incompetence

[–] leavemealone@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 week ago

Even with 100% tariffs, in a lot of cases, it would still be worth it...

[–] ulkesh@piefed.social 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

What a complete evil fucktard. Why won’t he just have that inevitable heart attack and end this?

[–] wildcardology@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

A heart attack is too good for him. I want a stroke where he's just a vegetable on a bed.

[–] Angryhumanoid@fedinsfw.app 11 points 1 week ago

Yes, the ailing pharmaceutical companies, the ones who REALLY need it.

[–] IchNichtenLichten@lemmy.wtf 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Pedolf must be very confident that he will be able to successfully rig the midterms given he's not backing away from doing everything he can to make anyone non-MAGA hate his guts.

[–] RamenJunkie@midwest.social 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

At this point it feels like a good portion of MAGA may be hating him too. Especially fucking with medicines like this.

[–] IchNichtenLichten@lemmy.wtf 4 points 1 week ago

He only needs those chucklekfucks to hate him less than they hate whatever the right wing press tells them to.

[–] shani66@ani.social 8 points 1 week ago

So, do you guys think his SS is deliberately leaving holes in his security yet?

[–] LovableSidekick@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

Continuing his crusade to make healthcare more affordable for everyday Americans by making it cost more.

[–] Corvidae@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

At the same time the US military is having a high injury rate in Trump's war of choice and the administration has approached congress for more military funding, which by the way is having some resistance from those communist democrats, Trump decides it's time to raise tariffs on imported generic drugs, saying publicly it's to lower drug prices. Uh huh. Trump's telling congress, see what I can do?

[–] venusaur@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Wonder if Israel gets exemption to that

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 1 points 1 week ago

At least until they're no longer useful or win the thunder dome.
