it's official, Ruby is off the rails

[–] Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz 46 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

What if we just cleansed it of nazis?

[–] SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social 7 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Yes, let's do that. Where should we send them?

Reeducation centers ideally located in immigrant ghettos so they can correct the wrong of forcing refugees into under-served areas with no industry or legal way to improve one's situation their politics brought about.

[–] SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

And as those ghettos would contain zero immigrants but only the finest of fine white people, there would be absolutely zero crime and other problems. Either that or the whole premise is completely wrong, but I wouldn't even think of that.

[–] Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I don't see where you're going with this, reeducation required eventual reintegration, making these people see and correct the systemic injustice they created as part of this seems both practical and moral.

[–] SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social 5 points 3 weeks ago (4 children)

I'm going to them realizing that they are the problem and not everybody else. They think all the problems come from migrants. Let's remove that variable and check if they are right. Not by removing the migrants, but by removing them from society.

Wasn’t familiar with this guy other than through trying Omarchy over one weekend, so I went down the rabbit hole.

Apparently this is something he is fairly well known for:

(from his Wikipedia entry)

“In 2025, Hansson published a blog post expressing support for far-right British activist Tommy Robinson and the 2025 British anti-immigration protests.”

Bold strategy alienating his user base and any supporters still around, let's see if it pays off for him.

I love how all these people who talk about immigration and remigration never talk about Western countries and Israel bombing middle east to oblivion. Sure buddy it is 100% sensible to ask someone to go back to a country with no infrastructure, healthcare or education left thanks to your country and its allies.

[–] Wispy2891@lemmy.world 10 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

They also seem to ignore that those millions of regular immigrants are paying billions in taxes

Simply put, they don't care.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 3 points 3 weeks ago

Simply put, they want to genocide people.

[–] vanillama@programming.dev 21 points 3 weeks ago

What a dumbass. Doubling and tripling and quadrupling down and knowing literally nothing about what he's talking about.

First of all, the US won't beat China because they deindustrialized and China is the factory of the world. This won't change short of a nuclear holocaust.

Second of all, most environmentalists want investment in greener energy so that we don't destroy the world if we can avoid that. China already makes cheap renewables, and it will only get cheaper still. Europe's energy crisis is tied to importing expensive US energy and not even trying to go renewable so they break off that dependency.

Third, as the US makes the world economy implode with a new stupid war the price of energy will only keep going up and up, so countries that heavily rely on importing energy will suffer a lot. You can't techbro your way out of this, and this should be obvious, but no amount of ethnic cleansing can reindustrialize an economy. Not only is his whole ideology appalling for anyone with a modicum of empathy, it's also not grounded in reality. But no, I'm sure if we all just believe in capitalism and fascism hard enough things will magically get better! Come on guys, the US is doing that and it's TOTALLY not just a bubble!!!!

[–] FizzyOrange@programming.dev 15 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Huh he actually did...

Because the sacred cow here is not just that mass migration must stop going forward. It's also that millions who are already in Europe must go. Remigration has gone from a fringe concept to the mainstream discourse in record time on account of that realization.

I think all of the previous criticisms of him have been pretty questionable exaggerations by the far left but you can't argue with this one. Also I didn't know he had such idiotic views on climate change. Sure, get air conditioners. But...

Setting aside how much of global warming is due to man-made causes, the reality is that Europe is irrelevant to the equation either way. Just 6% of global emissions originate there. So even if the nirvana of net zero could be achieved, it would change nothing, yet cost the continent everything.

First, why do we need to set that question aside? It's not a question, we know the answer. Second, what does he think is going to happen if every country in the world says "well we only contribute <10% of the problem so it won't make any difference if we change anything"? What a tool.

[–] Griffus@lemmy.zip 4 points 3 weeks ago

If you can not solve a problem, don't contribute to it's solution. Terrible and a purely defeatist attitude for a continent dependent on an stream that has made the continent livable, but is on decline. This guy is turning into Stupidity 101

It’s always fascinating to me how smart people can be so dumb.

[–] BestBouclettes@jlai.lu 8 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah, being smart, being educated and being wise are three entirely separate things.

He lives in a parallel universe

The best part of the American ethos is the belief that we can build our way out of anything. Behind China on chips and fabs? Let's build. Challenged by BYD? Let's build. Catch a glimpse of a future massively accelerated by AI? LET'S BUILD.

Build Chips and fabs = build some megaproject that won't be used because stockholders prefer to save $0.04 per unit

Challenged by byd? Let's sweep it under the rug with tariffs. But when in a few years their cars are actually better than Ford and GM, what to do?

Finally the ai grift with massive underutilized datacenters

[–] GalacticGrapefruit@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago

Wow.

Right, so this guy officially is fair game for Nazi-punching.

Now I'm wondering which software on my PC uses Ruby on Rails so I can reconsider.

[–] serpineslair@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

It's a web framework. Directly, probably none. However there may well be plenty of sites/web servers using it.

[–] Piatro@programming.dev 6 points 3 weeks ago

It's funny because I've worked with ruby on rails my entire career and can barely see how he built the tool that such an open and inclusive community formed around. He was always an outlier in that setting and even more so now. My understanding is that he's not very involved with the project and even if he was it would be pointless to boycott it since he doesn't gain anything from it anymore. Hey and Basecamp on the other hand, yeah, neither are seeing a penny from me.

[–] jj4211@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

None on your PC.

Even in terms of the internet services that might possibly use it, it hasn't been fashionable in 15 years or so. Long standing services that started between mid 2000s and mid 2010s are the most likely things to use it.

[–] one_old_coder@piefed.social 6 points 3 weeks ago

Not only Rails but also Hey.com which he created somehow. He will definitely lose customers.

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 6 points 3 weeks ago

Absolutely no surprise that the “Rails Is Omakase” guy is a moron.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 4 points 3 weeks ago

You know when I see these things I suspect some sort of out of context thing but wow. Would fit in with us maga.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 weeks ago

Well now that we're talking about assholes, yhod asshole comes by.

Thinks only in over simplifications, and of course it will all be solve by getting rod of the brown people. But worry not, genocide is mainstream now so it is fine!

[–] kandoh@reddthat.com 3 points 3 weeks ago
