General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

I was curious to see if Australia has such laws, and I was surprised to learn that according to Safe Work Australia that there isn't a temperature where people have to stop working:

No. A single ‘stop work’ temperature can’t account for all the factors that make working in heat hazardous

Same with Schools here. Government think it’s more important that kids be sitting in sweltering heat, uncomfortable, unable to take anything in, fostering a deep and real sense that the government and their school couldn’t give an actual shit about their wellbeing because “school os the best place for children to be”. Bollocks, they just want diligent worker drones to keep feed the “economy” rather than do something as petty as, oh I don’t know.. make sure their kids are safe? Ya know, the very people that will be those worker drones the government want to be useful in the future? Infuriating

100% agree with this. Whenever you view odd laws and regulations through the lens that they just want obedient worker drones then they start making more sense.

Spencer, who worked as a plumber before being elected as an MP in the Gorton and Denton byelection in February, has spoken about the “unfair” temperatures tradespeople must work in.

She said it was “absurd” the country did not have maximum temperature guidance: “This is something workers and trade unions have been raising the alarm about for many years – it shouldn’t have taken this long to act, but the unsafe temperatures we’re seeing now should be a huge wake-up call.

former plumber turns to politics and advocates for working class people. love to see it.
