Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Yeah, and if you want the boycott to stop, petition your government, because they're the reason Canadians are boycotting American goods to begin with!

[–] LogicalFallacy@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago

Anything short of violence will not move the needle

[–] HugeNerd@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm not much of a wine drinker anyway, but this boycott made me discover Quebec's bubbly apple cider made with extra grape stuff in it. It's 9%, dry as a desert, and very refreshing.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 1 points 7 hours ago

Southern Ontario has several award winning wines, and they don't all taste identical like that Mondavi swill from California.

Divided states of america's political caste being pieces of shit worldwide causing devastating harm to California wine industry.

ftfy.

Sorry California. You're still America.

But also, it's not just about boycotting the US, it's also about supporting the Canadian economy to strengthen our country, given our next door neighbor is a demented lunatic, with apparently still tens of millions of supporters.

So yeah, no.

But hey, if you want to secede and use all that sweet economic clout of yours to create Cascadia, you can have all that business back. If it means that much to you.

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago

Cascadia sounds amazing. Sure wouldnt mind being back on reasonable terms with Canada either.

As an american, I say to you: Elbows Up, Canada! We're sorry about our government being assholes to you. I know many good canadian people. You guys are on the right side of history in this battle (except the weirdos in Alberta).

[–] Auli@lemmy.ca 17 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Sorry it isnt the government it is the people. This government didn't come out of nothing.

As a Canadian elbows are at a cool 30° right now, not everything is peaches and cream on the liberal side of the rainbow.

Meanwhile newscum is platforming fascists on his podcast and blocking the one time five percent billionaire tax. Also I should mention all these Epstein connected fascist anti democratic tech bros became filthy rich in California so the world should be angry at California for sure

[–] Gates9@sh.itjust.works 30 points 2 days ago (1 children)

America won’t fucking learn until the wealthy are materially affected. We’re not quite there yet. So far the hurt is only on working class people, but like half of them still support the regime. Maybe the gas crisis will knock some sense into us. Probably not.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 1 points 7 hours ago

The boycott is about Canadians being well aware that Americans have no ideology, they only care about money, so don't give it to them.

The bad news for USA is that this is already habituated, we won't be going back.

[–] Toto@lemmy.world 55 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Love hearing about this every once in a while. It’s a nice reminder that Canadians aren’t as powerless as the US would like us to believe

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 20 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Thank you for hurting us. I really mean it.

[–] KingPorkChop@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Did we say you could speak? Your answer will be "No mistress".

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago

No mistress.

[–] sik0fewl@piefed.ca 9 points 1 day ago

He should be pleading to Americans, not Canadians.

[–] SirMaple__@lemmy.ca 23 points 2 days ago (1 children)

A few drinks won't change anything, Canada still consumes US sports and everyone is buying trucks, regardless of gas prices.

[–] KairuByte@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 day ago

I promise, the ruling class in America could not give less of a shit.

Well, maybe if you paid them enough.

[–] AWistfulNihilist@lemmy.world 28 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Fuck Adam schiff. These wineries are what rich people do when they get bored just being socialites. Or they are generational wealth that has manifested in these vines.

This hurts immigrant labor in my state, deeply, it would be the only worry I have IF TRUMP WASN'T MURDERING PEOPLE IN THE STREETS BECAUSE THEY UNLOCKED THE CHEAT CODE OF PUTTING YOURSELF DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF A VEHICLE.

Frankly if all your energy isn't put into stopping that shit Adam, then what the hell is the point, Canada should continue to ethically boycott the country.

Given that these wineries are likely owned by rich ass conservatives in my state. Good fucking job.

[–] iThinkDifferentThanU@lemmy.world 29 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Even they lift the ban people are choosing not to buy American in Canada. It may not even help at this point

[–] LogicalFallacy@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

I live in the US and actively avoid US products as well. No reason to reverse those habits that i can see.

Fuck us. Fuck us hard, Canada. We deserve it.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 1 points 7 hours ago

Eu, no, thank you.
