My mother would be so confused. She still uses landlines with wireless receivers and an answering machine. She doesn't seem to understand the concept of only having a cell phone.

I have a cell phone, but that's my mobile internet device. When I am at home and need/want to make calls, I'll definitely use the wireless landline phone. It's reliable and always charged.
The issue for me is also receiving calls. It gets complicated to have multiple numbers or to have to use forwarding when you’re home or not.
Can you get her some kind of voip phone?
That would be the happy medium - they're ubiquitous in most workplaces in the state so I suspect secondhand ones should be quite cheap (and not painful to set up).
I still use an Ooma Telo for my “home” phone. Has worked fine for many years.
I think where she lives, if the phone company ceased service the cable company would still provide an option. No idea about line maintenance or other issues though.
I'm still waiting for my navigator to call so I can escape the Matrix.
