I wouldn’t wish HDD read/write speeds on my worst enemy. We need the equivalent of no child left behind for hard drives. SSDs FOR ALL!!!

My PC is failing, and being in a 3rd world shithole in the aftermath of a catastrophic earthquake, the possibility of upgrading is lost somewhere in the distant future, if ever...

Sorry about you and Venezuela my friend, cheers from Brazil

Thanks, man. My family were very lucky, all in all. But the collective pain you can feel, most of all by the betrayal and outright hate that the "government" inflicted on us. Well never know how many hundredths of lives could have been saved had they acted when they were supposed to. They waited for 3 days, and have been boycotting international efforts and stealing supplies. It's outrageous...

WTF, i thought at least the united states would send a some supplies and rescue teams to help since the situation they involved...

They have, and have saved a lot of people, as have other countries like El Salvador and Mexico. But remember that everything has to pass through the venezuelan government, which in turn dissuades other people from helping, due to the very likely possibility of having their contribution stolen. And so our disgrace is served.

Me hoping for a hand-me-down Polaris+ GPU to replace my now-legacy 1050Ti: Squidward huddled in a cardboard box, smudged face and bandaged tentacles holding a mug up to beg for change

I "upgraded" from a GTX1650 to a GTX1060 last year, at least is slightly more powerful an has more VRAM, but it feels like the older architecture dates it, especially on Linux

[–] insomniac_lemon@lemmy.cafe 1 points 17 hours ago

especially on Linux

This is part of it for me, haven't updated in a while (slow-ish shared internet) and then Arch moved the driver to the AUR. At this point I'd need to find a better distro, but aside from not finding one I like (with a better update structure that doesn't give me other issues) the GPU will still be a problem (or 2 because proprietary driver).

I don't feel so bad about my RX 580 now. 😬
