Why can't conservatives just leave stuff how it is?

[–] daychilde@lemmy.world 11 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Because they're extra susceptible to propaganda

[–] pHr34kY@lemmy.world 9 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

It was in jest. "Conserve", by definition, is to resist change.

[–] pyre@lemmy.world 8 points 13 hours ago

yeah but that's just a name. it used to be the case that they resisted change. they now want change, but only if it's exclusively for the worse.

[–] daychilde@lemmy.world 3 points 12 hours ago

Yep, the name is ironic. I didn't catch you were joking but I knew it was possible because I also find the name ironic. Lol

Again the old fuckers are screwing things up for everyone else because racism.

Too young to vote in 2016 wanna stay out? Brainrot and its effects...

[–] orioler25@lemmy.world 3 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (1 children)

We're going to see some very interesting consequences to puritanical narratives like this in about ten more years. "The only way a small percentage of young people would come to adopt conservative politics is that there is a moral crisis in society which has corrupted them into being incapable of thought."

Of course, you remain uneffected by this crisis and have not succumbed to conservative reasoning.

The comment it is responding to. I am saying that their comment carries that narrative and that narrative subscribes to conservative rationalities.

I'm a fan of this graph format. Anyone know what it's called?

Based on other comments here, apparently this is an unpopular opinion lol

Thanks. I disagree that the middle section is useless, it does a good job of visually showing the flow of opinions

[–] SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 4 points 15 hours ago

And how many more will deadxit this week during the heat wave?

[–] lornosaj@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Slightly triggered for the use of such diagram when imho a simple bar chart would do the trick.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 13 hours ago

I kind of like it 🤷🏻

[–] wieson@feddit.org 6 points 14 hours ago

A simple bar graph wouldntve shown the partition of the deceased into leave and remain. It would've only shown the total number of those who died.

[–] LodeMike@lemmy.today 3 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Right? There is zero meaning to the middle bit. It's actually wrong because the undecided bit isn't included (some has to go and come from that). Same for young people not dying but I guess that's different.

This graph is terrible all around.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

The title says excluding undecided

[–] LodeMike@lemmy.today -1 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I know. I can read. It's not possible to do that in any reasonable way with this graph. Some undecided go to one group and vice-versa.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 12 hours ago

Some undecided go to one group and vice-versa.

Ya don't say...

[–] Canajan@piefed.ca 37 points 2 days ago (3 children)

This will happen for us as well in Canada, we have a bunch of plebs in Alberta wanting to separate. They have no idea or are blind to the perils that will be unleashed.

They are selfish twats that need to be ostracized and some harsh realities befal them in order to quash this foolishness.

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 hours ago

Entitled old people that won't rest until the whole world is as miserable as they are.

[–] d00phy@lemmy.world 5 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

It’s nice that you think their foolishness can be quashed.

[–] Canajan@piefed.ca 1 points 8 hours ago

More hopeful, but ya they won’t go away unfortunately.

[–] RickyRigatoni@piefed.zip 12 points 2 days ago (3 children)

How any canadian can look at america and say "yeah that grass looks a lot greener" is beyond me. Meanwhile I'm expecting canada to build a wall to keep us american refugees out.

[–] hanrahan@slrpnk.net 1 points 12 hours ago

how can any Republican think what's happening is fine.

so here we are, a lot of stupid people around

[–] core@leminal.space 4 points 1 day ago

Because they want the fascism. As long as they're on top

[–] justaman123@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

It's because attention is for sell and nobody talks to each other anymore so it's really easy for billionaires to buy the political opinions they want.

[–] Smoogs@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

so if you rejoin you live forever?

[–] huppakee@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'd really like to hear a valid argument from those who were too young to vote during the referendum and now want to stay out. I'd also like to ask them if they believe the Scots and Northern-Irish are free to leave the UK if they wanted to. Not that i expect i'll hear something new when i ask them, I just really want to see if there is someone in that group that actually believes the things they'd say.

[–] justaman123@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

They probably lack the capacity for that kind of introspection to develop a position. They just repeat what other people tell them and then believe it because there's a sort of logic to it. Testing something for veracity once it's past the coherence test is beyond a lot of people. Lots don't even make it that far. Conservatives have an entirely different system for evaluating things, it starts and ends with what the man says it is.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Testing something for veracity once it's past the coherence test is beyond a lot of people.

Ain't that the truth. Until we can educate ourselves out of this, we are completely fucked.

And the right has been aware of this for decades and (in the US at least) has systematically sabotaged public education in order to prevent this type of thought.

Which is just so collosally stupid and short sighted.

Our master and Lord - Short term quarterly gains, may the shareholders value ever increase

[–] LodeMike@lemmy.today 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Without the don't knows how is the middle part of the graph calculated?

[–] Voroxpete@sh.itjust.works 2 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

It's not. The two extremes are the data points, the middle is a way of visualizing how the data has changed in the intervening period.

[–] LodeMike@lemmy.today 1 points 12 hours ago

There's clearly some data there. What % goes to what.

[–] lornosaj@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Well for sankey diagram it is not, unless it would have some bars.

[–] Mantzy81@aussie.zone 1 points 2 days ago

Thomas doesn't give any fuchs.
