Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a small display (no more than 9 cm tall, preferably widescreen) that I can place under my monitor. I’d like to use Rainmeter to display sensor data from my PC on it. It shouldn’t require any special software; ideally, Windows should simply recognize and treat it as an additional monitor. Ideally, the ports would be on the back of the screen. A stand would also be great. While there’s a pretty large selection on Amazon, some of it is really unhelpful, even if you comb through the reviews. Does anyone have any tips for me?

Short version:

  • Preferably widescreen, but definitely no more than 9 cm tall
  • No software required for setup or operation
  • Recognized as a regular monitor
  • Ports on the back, if possible

What price range are we talking about? Depends on money and interests you can choose from something janky like an old phone screen + hdmi mipi adapter or pc case LCD panel (comes often with hdmi) or something completely different like a used second screen...

Price is secondary until I know what the market has to offer. I was thinking of something like Lian Li's 8.8 inch ultrawide screen, but I'm not sure if it works without the Lian Li software.

Idk about the Lian li ones but a buddy got himself a corsair xenon edge on a deal and he's running it via hdmi. If I remember correctly it just popped up as a screen without any software but you need to double check it!

And I forgot to mention another category: keyboards with displays^^

Thanks for the tip! The Corsair display does look pretty nice, but it’s far too expensive for what it actually offers. I also noticed that Corsair has a keyboard with a built-in Stream Deck and display, which would be a neat solution - but I don’t really want to have to look that far down at my keyboard.

In the meantime, I found out that the Lian Li display can be used without that rather odd software suite. So I’ll probably get an AIDA64 Extreme licence instead and build my own custom sensor panel. Since the display connects via USB directly to the motherboard, there should be little to no performance impact.

Just in case someone is looking for something similar: I got the Lian Li 8.8" Universal Screen and am really happy with it. You will have to install the Lian Li software to get it to be recognized as an additional screen (and to turn of the LED, too). After that you won't have to use it again and can build your own sensor panel in AIDA. Be aware though that the screen does not like USB Extension Cables. I'm using it connected to my active USB hub and it works well now. The stand could be a bit more stable, but otherwise it's great!
