Most of us Americans actually love the Canadians. It's just the morons currently in charge that want to pretend they have a problem with Canada.

The morons in charge get voted in by Americans. From a Canadian's perspective, we don't believe the admin is pretending to have a problem with us anymore.

Claim to love us or not, a sufficiently large portion of the US population chose this. We judge America by its actions and right now, we're all pretty collectively pissed at your government, and the population for allowing it to get here.

A majority of Americans (who voted) voted trump in, that's true. But the other branches of government which could check the president are undemocratic:

Each state gets two two senators, meaning places like Wyoming and North Dakota each get two senators while they have fewer people than individual cities in other states (500k people in Wyoming vs 8.58 million in NYC, 800k in North Dakota vs 1.5 million in Philadelphia)

Congress seats are gerrymandered so that the number of seats awarded is not proportional to the amount of votes to each party.

The supreme court is appointed for life (bad enough to start) and then has one stolen seat (should have been appointed by Obama) and another semi-stolen seat which wouldn't have been appointed if we didn't have the electoral college (Trump first term).

The supreme court has ruled that corporations can spend money promoting politicians just like a person can.

One might argue these are the rules, but we didn't put these rules in place, and the people in power have worked together to prevent reform. Blaming all Americans for the current administration's stance on Canada is counterproductive.

All that said, Canadians have a right to be freaked out, to be mad, to be concerned. I'm mostly saying it's a stretch to call the U.S. democratic.

Spoken like someone who really doesn't understand the difficulty of what they're asking.

I stopped going easy on Americans when their government threatened military action on us and their supposed allies.

Yeah, ikr? It was fine while we were helping them commit war crimes together against brown people.

BUT, HOW FUCKING DARE THEY THREATEN TO DO THAT TO US?

[–] spaghettiwestern@sh.itjust.works 9 points 20 hours ago

The morons in charge have a problem with anyone except their fellow pedophile protectors.

American non-voters and Republicans are the majority and therefore the majority do not in fact love us. Or themselves apparently, self inflicted injury.

I love Canada. I have a bunch of Canadian coworkers who are lovely people and the parts of Canada I’ve visited were wonderful (some better than others, but still). I don’t think I’ve ever met another fellow American who dislikes Canada or Canadians.

[–] lobut@lemmy.ca 2 points 19 hours ago

There are those that are friendly to Canadians that think we should be your 51st State. To those, I say, get fucked.

Fuck all of them. They're all pieces of shit.

[–] SharkAttak@kbin.melroy.org 14 points 22 hours ago

They could still bond over their hatred of indigenous people...

Been to Toronto a couple of times and I love Canada. Beautiful city, people, Healthcare.

Walkable cities. Poutine.

The thing I hate the most about this is that we, Canada, are the stupid ones in this image. Carney’s “elbows up” turned into “knees down” so fucking fast, though that was thoroughly unsurprising, and we just can’t seem to help being so fucking naive as to believe that the US is anything but a volatile disaster of a country.

[–] joeljoelle@piefed.blahaj.zone 8 points 22 hours ago

I've loved Canada ever since I saw SCTV and Strange Brew

I say to this admin: take off, you hosers; we love Canada, eh

[–] theuniqueone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 22 hours ago

America has nothing to complain about with canada true but people in canada have every right to hate canada so be careful on this kind of stuff.

[–] Luminous5481@anarchist.nexus 5 points 23 hours ago

nah, that's the current administration's view of Canada. most Americans like Canada and Canadians.

[–] Steve@startrek.website 1 points 18 hours ago

Most of the trump voters just wanted to hurt queers. I dont know of anyone who hates Canada.

[–] garbagehead@lemmy.ca 0 points 23 hours ago

In part true. Canada keeps wanting to be the US's little brother and this doesn't help. Rather, I would like to see Canada get more tangible benefits such as easy moves, work, and education by it's participation in the commonwealth.
