Whenever i take a screenshot (samsung) theres a popup at the bottom that lets me crop it, and it will automatically trim the screenshot to exclude the battery/notifications at the top and the 3 buttons at the bottom

The rare case of a good Samsung UX.

Yea its probably because my phone is like 5+ years old, it still has an aux port too (one if the main reasons I've kept it for so long)

Don't get a new Samsung. I liked mine until they moved/force updated to OneUI 8 like 3 months in and I have hated it since. I have an old LG 5g that I'm bringing out of retirement once this thing is paid off. Miss that SD card, 3.5mm aux, and a stable, reliable, predictable UI. Glad I took care of that old phone since LG is out of the market and we have like 3 options in the States for phone hardware anymore...

If you're doing screenshots frequently and need to remove the notifications and navigation bar every now and then, just head over to Settings, Advanced features, Screenshots and screen recording then toggle Hide status and navigation bars on.

Do phones still show battery life and carrier info on screenshots? Mine doesn't and I feel like I haven't seen it do that for a few years at least lol

Edit: ok, so if I swipe up from the bottom and hit the screenshot icon it doesn't show the battery, signal, etc BUT if I take a screenshot using the volume keys on the side it does show all of that

Maybe it's OS specific as iOS captures everything visible on the screen.

Mine does too on the latest Android. Maybe they're using Graphene or something and it's different there?

[–] ButteredBread@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

As a grapheneOS user I csn confirm it does show the bar at the top in screenshoots.

[–] SatyrSack@quokk.au 2 points 1 week ago

I would love for that to be an option, though. I often edit my screenshots to remove things like the clock in order to help anonymize. Though I understand the goal of GrapheneOS is security, which is not the same as anonymity.

Is it jealousy because they're chatting with lots of people and running down their battery yet still posting compared to your usage?

[–] Mountainaire@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

No, it's out of concern. Batteries in a healthy percentage (around 50%) will last longer. This is why most shipped devices arrive within 45-55% of a charge. It's concern for the environment and their wallet (more time can go by before having to replace due to long-term capacity loss).

At least, it is for me.

[–] d5273@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Correct, 80-20% is the healthiest range for batteries, but I don't think it makes too much of a difference to be honest. Then again I replaced the battery of my Nexus 5 in like an hour back a decade ago, but no idea if something like that is still possible
