"So I was sitting in my penthouse today, and I realized, ever since I started making deals with AI companies, every single day has been worse than the day before it for new GPUs. So that means that every single day that you check the market, that's on the worst possible day to look at GPU prices."

Is that a quote from somewhere?

[–] papalonian@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

It's a modified quote from the movie "Office Space"

People who self host AI, AMD also works but CUDA is king there.
In all workloads Nvidia is technically king but I want to stop buying from them(in the future)

Any person who buys an Nvidia GPU in the current climate should be shunned from the gaming community as a whole.

The only way for us to send a message to any corporation is with our wallets - and unfortunately, I don’t think most Gamers^TM^ have the „intestinal fortitude” necessary; Nvidia’s market share of gaming GPUs has only risen since this current AI bubble began.

Well, they lose money on every gaming GPU they make that could be used for business class h200 chips that sell for 20x more for the same ram. So I'm not really sure that has the effect you want.

No, I don't really care to be honest. They make a bajillion dollars from the other AI companies anyways. And no other GPU manufacturer in Nvidias position would have done anything different.

If you really want to change something, go the fuck outside and protest or organize, don't argue with other people what companies they buy from.

Edit: Obviously, don't protest about not having enough gaming GPUs, that would be kind of meaningless, but maybe about data centers, privacy rights, wealth inequality, facism etc.

You people who want to upgrade an already very good gaming GPU, what the benefits you think it would have?

Just 40M more triangles, dawg. I just need an extra 40M more triangles and then the game will look good.

Please, bro. I'm begging you. This is the last time. Then the game will look SO SMOOTH. I just need those 40M extra triangles and then it'll look absolutely fantastic, I promise. Games are literally unplayable without the extra 40M triangles. I won't have any fun unless I get them. I will pay literally any price. Please, this is the last time. I swear.

For people that are on the 1080ti to 2070 range they're getting old enough now that they can be fading out.

I'll hold until RDNA 5.
