I dooon't think this is true, even in an oversimplified humorous way.
- Female spotted hyenas are dominant.
- They are the only mammals without an external vaginal opening.
- It reads: "[...] the results discussed here strongly suggest that formation of the scrotum and penile clitoris of the spotted hyena is an androgen independent event (Box 1a), although the morphology of the penile clitoris is modulated by naturally circulating androgens in utero."
- It also notes: "Specifically, these [other] researchers report that there are strong positive correlations between maternal rank in the hyena social group, maternal androgens during the late stages of pregnancy, and aggressiveness of juvenile offspring. Other data, from captive hyenas, are also compatible with a link between androgens and estrogens and female aggressiveness toward males in spotted hyenas".
So I mean, sure, they could be related in that clitoral morphology and aggression both correlate with androgens, but it doesn't seem like they're wagging their clits around to assert dominance – just that their morphology might be correlated with aggression via a common cause of androgens.
