major manifesto

Why dumb down proper news reporting?
The "manifesto" is called Encyclical letter, and is the classical format of publications of the Catholic Pope.

[–] pachrist@lemmy.world 27 points 5 days ago

Because manifesto gets type-cast as crazy.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 10 points 5 days ago

AI wrote the article.

I grew up so ideologically opposed to these guys that I hate it when they make a good point. 😩

[–] sunbeam60@feddit.uk 11 points 6 days ago

Sir, I tip my hat in your general direction. That was, as they say, a cracking joke.

[–] oce@jlai.lu 16 points 6 days ago (1 children)

They are socially conservative, but they have been fairly consistent at asking people not to kill each other for the past decades.

[–] frostedtrailblazer@lemmy.zip 11 points 5 days ago

I think the leadership is less socially conservative compared to the past, but they represent some very conservative bases so they more or less are having to crawl progress forward or they risk a schism.

The previous pope, Pope Francis, stacked the Vatican with more progressive leaning cardinals. I believe Pope Leo will be following in Pope Francis’ footsteps in terms of appointments.

You know it's a strange year when both the Mullah regime of Iran and the Pope of the Catholic church put something out there and you can't immediately disagree...

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 55 points 6 days ago (19 children)

I stand behind Leo's message 100%,

but you have to admit it is kind of funny that the original gaslighter organization which uses positive reinforcement to brainwash people into worshiping a deity of their own creation is trying to stop tech companies from doing the exact same thing, lol.

OMGAWD yesss

[–] freeman@sh.itjust.works 8 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Yeah but at least that organization has not ever instigated a war, right?

[–] pingu@piefed.europe.pub 4 points 6 days ago (4 children)

Is an instititute not allowed to develop into something better over time?

[–] freeman@sh.itjust.works 7 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Certainly they have not at all stopped misinforming people. There are also still elements that promote hatred.

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Have they ever truly gotten rid of the pedo problem either? Like all of the ones in the system?

[–] badgermurphy@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

I know that they were "dealing with it internally", and they did seem to be taking some measures, but I would be very surprised if it is completely eliminated, especially since their methods and actions are private. Hell, the whole response could have been faked since nobody really knows what all was done.

it was built on a weak foundation of lies for a people who are scared to die. But really who isn't... I remember hearing catholics say "those christians over there are not real christians" ...Then I proceeded to think neither of you two are christians but a lost people displaced by war, exploited by capitalist and no real memory of your past. Bondage is all they know. Without a scientific mind you just make shit up and in the hiearchy the poor pay more.

Certainly not one that has been around for centuries and has seen many different world views over the years!

We in the USA have a issue with secular and non secular idol worship... The pope is a CEO... Kinda like his own little corpo kingdom... kinda like these billionaire welfare queen pdfile anarcho capitalist libertarian tech ceos..and it seems like both parties can't keep their hands off the kids. Like musky boy is trying to create or already created. These catholic clergy are just grifters and fraudsters. It is sad to watch the elderly spiral into madness and these vampires love taking advantage of the weak while posing as "the good guy".... the world is a inversion of what people actually believe. It is hard to keep your head on straight with such a heavy knowledge base. I looked into the abyss and it spit in my eye.

[–] PabloSexcrowbar@piefed.social 4 points 5 days ago

I've heard there are AI worshipping cults now. I wonder if that's got anything to do with it.

[–] Karl@literature.cafe 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

As much as I hate the organization, I want to forgive the people who run it. I want to believe they do it cuz they're brainwashed too.

The pope's AI encyclical was good reading and reminds us to center human dignity, compassion, etc. Lots of ethics to explore with regard to AI and related cultural phenomena.

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 9 points 6 days ago

"Fuck the ethical considerations and rush it through!" - most any american business person.

Just disarm billionaires from their money.

[–] YeOldGrim@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago

Why would he disarm himself?

[–] unphazed@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Is this the beginning of the Butlerian Jihad?

[–] InternetCitizen2@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago

And the Orange Catholic Bible

[–] ChromaticMan@lemmy.world 8 points 6 days ago (1 children)

This might be the first time I agree with a Pope.

[–] ShotDonkey@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago
