Europeans labeling every software they make as European

[–] xav@programming.dev 2 points 1 month ago

US people label everything as "American"

[–] Piatro@programming.dev 1 points 1 month ago

Yeah I think it makes sense if you're providing a service but to label the software makes no sense. What if someone from, say, India provides translations or any other contribution. Is the software still European? The answer doesn't matter so there's no point arguing about it and so there's no point labelling it in the first place. On the other hand if you provide a service it is now very important where that service is being operated from, to know what legal rights you have about the data you send to the service.

Godot is European. There's no need for this.

from the article

As you can see from the video below I find the concept of a “European Game Engine” silly in the age of global development as well as we explore nearly a dozen existing European rooted game engines. Again as far as that can be defined in the age of the internet that is!

it's not tho. it's from Argentina

It's european in a sense that open source doesn't belong to anyone

From Argentina?

The Godot Foundation is a Dutch non-profit organization registered as "Stichting Godot" that financially supports the Godot Project, an open source game engine. The Foundation was formed on August 23rd, 2022 to administer charitable contributions that are made to the Godot Engine.

Godot (/ˈɡɒdoʊ/ GOD-oh, /ɡəˈdoʊ/ gə-DOH, or /ˈɡoʊdɒt/ GOH-dot)[‡ 3] is an open source game engine released under the MIT License. It was initially developed in Buenos Aires by Argentine software developers Juan Linietsky and Ariel Manzur[3] for several companies in Latin America prior to its public release in 2014.[4]
