Probably Akame ga Kill for me.
Plot is cool for sure but come on, the execution wasnt that Deep or dark
True but to be fair I haven’t watched many dark animes yet.

I was rewatching a couple of episodes and I had forgotten how eerie and creepy this one was.

Takopi's Original Sin
Even the "good ending" is a bad ending.
On the one hand, it's incredibly well-made. On the other hand I'm not sure I ever want to watch that ever again.
That's how I feel about Grave of the Fireflies. I've only seen the first episode or two of Tokopi, but my spouse and I knew we had to put it down at the time. Maybe someday.
It took me awhile to finish it too but I’d still recommend finishing Takopi if you started it
Orb: On the Movements of the Earth - half of the episodes are so fucking dark that you literally can't see shit
Wierd pick, but Dorohedoro.
The world and main plot are undeniably dark. But at the same time side threads and charachters have a juxtaposed wholesome and positive outlook, and tonally things work like a slice of life a lot of the time.
It's great.

Since nobody mentioned it yet: The Promised Neverland
It started with a very strong hook, had a middle section full of suspense, and ended the best way I could hope for.
The ending was good?

They managed to achieve the best possible outcome for Emma's gang, getting everyone out from there.
The only thing they had to sacrifice was one of Emma's ears.
Yeah I never ended up finishing season 2 as I heard it was a mess and non-canon etc
I'd say Death Parade, Fate/Zero, Fate/Stay Night Heavens Feel, Garden of Sinners and Phantom: Requiem For A Phantom

Psycho Pass is good though it’s not SUPER dark. Very dystopian though. Good show.
Only season 1 though for any new people that haven't watched it. What a shame there was only a single season... Guess if it got more seasons it could have ruined it /s

Those were supposed to be on new lines. Will teach me not to supervise my own comments.
I've found in all the mobile apps I've used, ya gotta double enter to get new lines to actually show up. Maybe I'm also doing something wrong, but that's what works for me on Eternity anyway.

Besides what was said here, Jin Roh was great: a very adult tale in a very well built and believable world.
Sadly it becomes mudled by the tipical strongman political strife from the 80s/90s Japanese drama. But the way military service and trauma is represented is outstanding.
Perfect Blue is also perfect, and blue.
Wolf Children will wreck you, though I guess it isn't really dark but very recommendable.
Also Berserk but only the first season (golden era).
