In the latest episode of "they will always sell you out" - they sold you out! Who would've thought.

Hoping for a good alternative client to appear, the writing is on the wall. Vaultwarden can't exist without "leeching" off of Bitwarden.

This is why I use keepass and sync thing for my setup

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 2 points 23 hours ago

I got short memory problems... Yeah so this is why I got to install aliasvault and stalwart.

MBAs ruin everything they touch.

[–] onlinepersona@programming.dev 22 points 1 day ago

I saw the term MBAssholes being used lately and really love it.

It was too good to last. They enshitify everything.

I canceled my BW sub and made the move to Proton when I saw this yesterday. I went through the enshitification of 1PW and won't hang around for the sequel.

A great Medium article on the topic that analyzes the entire situation: (coming to the conclusion that no, Proton does not really seem to be in favor of Trump/MAGA at all given their actual actions, and how the original statement was misinterpreted)

I disagree. The article is just someone's opinion. As a previous customer, there is a smell to these things. First, it's the complimemts to the fascist. Then, the pivot to AI. There is virtually little support on Linux. Next will be the policy changes. I jumped off ship. The article reads like an AI piece. May not be, but the author seems sketch, only one post. I see the nuance, I'm just not convinced.

What's going on with 1pass?

[–] Horsey@lemmy.world 4 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago) (1 children)

1P 7.0 moved to electron, which means sub-native performance and higher RAM usage. They removed their lifetime sub payment and stranded their lifetime users on 6.0 . I left right after the removal of lifetime subs.

[–] HotsauceHurricane@lemmy.world 2 points 18 hours ago

wow thats pretty shitty. my spouses job pays for 1pass for the family, probably not gonna switch anytime soon. i do have abackup on proton though.

Hmm 🤔

Seems I will have to search for alts to Vaultwarden

[–] Creat@discuss.tchncs.de 33 points 2 days ago

VaultWarden is still fine and unaffiliated. Should they change the official Bit warden client to no longer work with that back end, there will be solutions.

Keypass + SyncThing is my preferred method

[–] johntash@eviltoast.org 1 points 23 hours ago

Does keepass still get maintained?

Also one of the things I like about 1p is that mfa is required if I log in on a new machine. Im not sure how id emulate that with keepass

[–] MidnightMarauder@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Just switched today from bitwarden to this setup, so far I like it!

[–] jws_shadotak@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Sometimes you'll get a sync conflict file. You can merge databases together if there's ever a discrepancy between syncs.

Thanks for the heads up

If only KeepassXC wasn’t so butt ugly. Genuinely wish there was an alternative desktop client.

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 1 points 1 day ago

there's Keepass, and GNOME Passwords, depending on what platform your on

[–] Doug@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago

ditto. works just fine for me 🤙

I’ve been using proton pass for a while now while keeping my subscription going for Bitwarden. Ended that one today. Keeping an eye on Alias Vault to see how its future security audit pans out.
